Will a CD player from a ,92 Firebird fit in my '89 GTA?

I've been looking into replacing the cassette player in my GTA with a CD player, but I would like to keep it looking as factory original as possible. I came across this on eBay and was wondering if it would fit? would the wiring harnesses match up? and would it still work with my steering wheel controls? I know it says it will only fit a 90, 91, or 92, but will it work in my '89 anyway? Any help would be great.

eBay Motors: Am Fm CD for a 90 91 92 Pontiac Firebird oem (item 190045092317 end time Nov-01-06 16:37:24 PST)

it looks like it will fit, but for that kind of money, you could buy a much much nicer aftermarket Mp3 deck.

For that kind of money you can get a nice Monsoon cd player out of a newer Tran Am like I did. It will bolt right in and plug right in just like its supposed to be in there. Sexier looking too I think.

The steering wheel controls don't work with any CD Player unless it has a remote control and a PAC connection. Even a factory CD Player from 1989 won't work with the steering wheel controls

I've heard that the later Monsoon decks, in order to fit properly you have to cut into the heater duct. blackcrow64 can you verify this?

$228 is a lot of money for that CD player IMO. Sure, you could buy an aftermarket CD Player for cheaper and get better quality. But to me, these cars just seem to look better with the stock decks. To me, something like a Pioneer etc just sticks out like a sore thumb.

Try and find something a bit cheaper and then go for it is my advice.

^^^ The way it should be.

eBay Motors: Pontiac cd player radio 90 91 92 93 Grand Prix Trans AM (item 170026595944)

I bought this deck(click link above), from this seller for alot less money, although technically wrong for an F-car it is correct for the Pontiac Bonneville and G/P of '92.
It works perfectly, took all of 3 minutes to install and came with new faceplate, upgraded player (to play RWs) and a warranty. For all intent and purposes only a purist knows it's incorrect for a Firebird.

Always looking for a deal I came across your auction listing and asked the seller twice about it's condition and warranty and got NO replies at all. That tells me that someone bought an "as-is" junkyard player that may end up costing another $200 to have repaired.

I was so happy with this one I bought a second unit from him for my buddy's '89 IROC that had the Delco BOSE system in it. It too was an incorrect year ('93 Camaro) but it's fit and function were perfect.

I can verify this situation. Mine went right in with no modifications to the heater ducts. I had to drill out the mounting hole for the plastic stablizer stud thats in the back of the unit. I also had to slightly trim the mounting brackets width a little. Factory plug plugs right into it as well. Thats all there is to it.

Yes, I have seen many other people use that headunit as well.

Just be sure that it has the theftlock unlocked and that the display works properly. Sometimes the older headunit displays go bad.
