Just installed my Monsoon...

Well guys, I just put the Monsoon headunit in my Firebird tonight and it sounds absolutly amazing. Got it out of an 01 Trans Am and I love it. It is by far greater than an aftermarket cd player like I had in it before...

Anyways, everything works great with no problems but when I went to use it in the dark I noticed the display screen doesn't light up. In the daylight I can barely read it so I know it works it just isn't backlit or whatever they use...

Has anybody been able to repair this problem? I wasn't sure if it used LED's or if the whole display screen needed to be/could be replaced... Maybe just take it somewhere to get repaired?

I'll get some pictures of it tomorrow morning for ya. It fit nice.

Heres a picture of how it turned out then... I like how the buttons and such light up orange to match my stock gauges and such unlike the ones from the Camaros and other newer GM vehicles.

Except, it doesn't play Mp3s. But if you can look over the fact that I can have 7-15 cds burnt onto ONE Mp3 CD, whereas you have to keep swapping out 10-15 song CDs, then more power to you.

With that said, I believe the newer Sunfires have an Mp3 CD player, but they are a tad to tall.

But I agree, the stock players will always look the best. My dream is to one day find a 3rd gen Pontiac CD player and take it to a shop that will make it capable of playing Mp3s. So I will have the best of both worlds, correct generation CD player and Mp3 capability.

hey, I got that exact radio. bought it at a second hand shop for $6.99
I can't wait to hear how it sounds, I can only test for power since I have no speakers.
(because I dumped my UQ7 setup and boxes) It looks alot better in the car than those small 1 din aftermarket CD players that jet out from the radio pod.

bigwhitegtp.. those H/U's dont have the rca outputs? if they do you can buy a wire from radioshack that goes in the rca input and plugs right into the mp3 player.. dunno if thats what your looking for but thats what i got :P

Bandit, you have a stock non-mp3 pontiac cd player with a wire from radioshack that enables it to play Mp3s? Pics? Stock delco h/u's don't have RCA outputs as far as I know. But you say you have one? No sarcasm, if you have pics please post them.

One question, did you run into trouble with the theftloc function?

Kind of neat thing I came across, there's an adapter/converter box that turns the CD changer control plug on the radio back into somthing you can plug AUX items into (DVD, MP3, I-pod) I think it's around $50 dollars for it.

I havn't looked into it in any real detail though.....

check this page Auxiliary input adapters, add I-pod, ipod adapter for your car, mp3 player, dvd player or any audio into your car stereo - PIE - PERIPHERAL - PAC - SOUNDGATE - BLITZ

Thanks for the replys guys... I didn't have any problems with the theft lock function. It was almost a direct bolt in. The plugs are exactly the same and the mounts just needed the edges trimmed to fit. In the back where the radio support bolt goes through. There is a piece that the upper part of the headunit hit so I just trimmed the edge of it and it fit right in. I have rockford fosgate speakers in it and they sound a lot better with this headunit amp.

I just need to get the display fixed now... The stupid backlight doesn't work now. If you look close enough you can see the numbers but its just not lit up. Anybody know if this is fixable or not?

We don't have any RCA outputs on them. All it has is the factory plug for the harness... If there was any other outputs I'm not sure what they would have been. Ya know they make a wireless adapter for ipods that allow you to play it through any FM station. Its a pretty sweet thing but I am happy with just my cd's in this car.
