4th gen Bose Sub
Has anybody installed a 4th gen Bose sub in the left rear compartment area?
Would like to have something hidden, not expensive, with the factory radio.
I like the Bose system in my 4th gen.
Would like to add something similar that would be hidden.
Don't need the blow your ears out base.
But, I do need a little base to have the full sound.

I put a single 10 in the rear luggage compartment. Used a dual voice coil speaker in a box, put a carpeted lid over the top sealed to the box. Pretty near invisible and with the sub amp (in the side storage compartment) it sounds really good up to a point. I can shoot a picture or two if you want to see it.

What they are referring to, are enclosures that look factory-installed... where you cut out part of the storage well, etc, and the enclosure fits right in...
someone was making them on these forums... wasn't it Rezn8tor? (forgive if I spelled it wrong.)

Yep, thats what I am looking for.
Would like for the car to look totally stock.
Basically have a totally hidden enclosure.
Have the enclosure in the rear side compartment.

that's definitely a viable option... the sub is even matched for the enclosure... just don't expect the world from such a small box/sub
shoot in my opinion (but opinions are like buttholes.everyone has 1 and no one wants ta hear it.)JL is awsome and worth every EXPENSIVE dollar. However doin it yerseld or like anything else ya usually get what ya pay for so keep dat in mind.good luck.

When it comes to quality stuff, you'd be surprised. My pair of 8" JL Audios would out perform most anything you'd get at Best Buy... 12"... 15"... you name it.
It's all about the quality of the sub, matching the sub to the enclosure, and properly powering it.

What it comes down to, is you can spend twice as much on a pair of 8s, that may or may not sound as good as a pair of 12s/15s...
But yeah, the big problem with small subs (like the EU-700s I Have--damnit I can't believe they just redesigned them, so now we don't have to modify them to fit on our 4th gens,) but they have to move so damn much that you can actually 'hear' the woofer move... like if you have a noisy port or whatnot... either way, I prefer larger woofers, since they are cheaper, and have to do less work... but certain situations require smaller woofers...

If it's a smaller woofer, it's going to have to move further to create the same sound... can reduce accuracy.
either way, small woofers CAN sound good... I've seen and heard it before.

I say the opposite. If you want clean full sound and not just loud shytty bass, go with either a pair of 8's or 10's. I've yet to hear a clear quality sounding 12" sub.

both great brands, comparible... so you can't judge on size alone...
no reason why a bigger woofer can't be just as accurate as a smaller...
The whole 10&under VS 12&over is pointless without details. Box type, accoustics, amp response, wattage and probably a few other things have to be taken into consideration.
If the sub is screwed down poorly, on a home made box, without a rubber surround... don't matter what size it is, it's not gonna sound as good as a system with the proper setup.
Also, no matter the size, every quality company tries to get their sub to travel as great a distance as possible, so it's not like an 8" is gonna travel 4inches & a 15" will do 1inch.... they're all gonna have large vibrations.

Tell ya what Aaron this summer when i roll back up to HTFD.CT I'll holla and hop over let ya hear my infinity 12 it sounds clear as a bell. But then again I don't run the sensitivity settings or the amps bass boost or the head units bass settings WFO either.Makes the bass in AC/DC sound great and actually in there .And when I'm hittin NWA the thump rattles the head unit at times to where it skips.Solid and clear. All in a simple well box 1/2 butt thrown together.Semi sealed with i think only 1 flat area(the top)being actually 1 solid piece not glue/screwed together to make the panel.
Had an old MDF display case out in storage so cut it down to make 1st box.
Point it one shouldn't generalize.Theres decent subs of all sizes out there it's just in how ya run them and how they are matched up.

But, I want it hidden in the left rear compartment.
Don't see a 10 or especially a 12 being able to squeeze in there in a box that would be sufficient.

So he wants an 8" woofer to fit in the driver's-side area in the hatch... you could put an 8" in there, but, depending on how much volume you get in your box, you may want to consider porting it, and going with something like the EU-700... They have just revised it. new EU-700
Well, I have a JL 12" with a JL 1/500 amp, in a JL box with JL wires....so I'm good.6.5" is a component tho. Not made for handling 180Hz and lower consistantly at high volumes.
8" sub is a waste of money..... unless your putting it in the front of your car to balance out sub bass. In my other car, I used to want a 8" in the glove box & a 12" in the trunk. But once I learned how to manipulate sound, I realized I didn't need it for just everday listening. Supreme Member

Yeah this woofer kicks *** for being 6.5" but... hey, it's still a 6.5" woofer... you can only do so much...
I always wanted to make a killer boombox with a set of components, and these 6.5" subs, get a few of those APC-type 12v batteries and put them inside... slap a cheapo 4ch amp and a headunit (or skip the headunit for a portable player) and you'd have a hell of a boombox for tailgating

Hey Fireball. Some time when ya get the chance pop off the cover to yer sparetire area.Theres actually alota space in there behind the panel.Same as for the storage compartment on the D/S.I've pulled a few of those panels to check positioning of brkts for the old pull type cargo area cover.(picked all the stuff for install not too long ago). But theres actually enuff room to shoe horn up to about a 15" with alot of surrounding area on either side. While deep and wide is basicaly ideal and what most people think of when visualizeing enclosures.Volume doesn't just havve to be just deep.Wide area can function just as well.
I have a few 12" subs and am thinkin of doin the hidden thing as well.It would also give me more options sound wise as i also have the well enclosure .So would functionaly have 2 hidden subs on their amps and 1 in the well space enclosure that would be visiable.
