Good System with stock locations

I have no idea how to search for this, so if this was covered, I'd greatly appreciate if someone points me to it.

All I want is a system that sounds very good when I'm in the car. I could care less about the people in other cars, and I do not want to add anything (such as an amp, etc).

I'd like some suggestions for speakers in the stock locations and HU for a TA hardtop that will give me improved sound. If no improvement over stock is possible given my parameters, so be it.

TIA

WOW!! No additional power exept from the head unit. Adding just about anything will improve sound. Well, any reputable manufacturer for head unit and speakers should suffice. I would get a 4X6 plate set up for the dash or with some sloght modifications adding a 4" component set would do even better. A 6X9 would be okay in the back. It will give you decent bass response since you have such small woofers in the front or you can build a plate out of some type of wood (MDF,Plywood,OSB, Particleboard, masonite) and put some sort of 6 1/2 inch seperates in. There is qite a bit of room in the dash so you can go quite crazy on what you put in for a head unit. Pioneer, eclipse,Kenwood excelon, Nakamichi, Alpine etc. Good name brand you get what you pay for brands. Boston acoustics, Clif designs, Diamond, Alpine, MB Quart etc for speakers. Even Rockford or eclipse is great. Ask around. Look up reviews on products at places like crutchfield or google a product review.Usually asking for brands gets a (I've got a bigger ****) discussion with this is the best, nO this is the best. Just use common sense and research. Its your hard earned dollar that you have to spend.

Good luck!

The best thing you can do is shop around town and listen to the speakers. I know at Car Toys you can hear the speakers powered by the head unit and by whatever amps they have installed in the room. Car Toys is Commission based so use caution. It's your money and your ear you need to please. Just swapping the speakers will improve your sound. An amp will clean up the sound and make it louder though. You might even think the cheap(er) stuff sounds better.

Case in point I listened to Focal (way overpriced), Alpine, JBL, JL Audio, and Infinity 6xs at Car Toys. Don't get me wrong, Focal is the cleanest thing I have ever heard but it was harsh sounding to me. Almost shrill. Out of everything, the $130.00 JL Audio sounded the best even surpassing the $300.00 set of Focals. The L Audio just sounded right. Clean mids and highs, tight midrange, and bass. It will all depend on what you want to hear and what you want to spend.

I have been using a Pioneer DEH-P47DH head and Polk db series speakers. They sound great a low or high volume, unlike other speakers that need to be cranked to sound good. You may want to check into these.

Ive have the pioneer DEH-P47DH hu as well. With JBL GTOs 4x6s in the dash and some 6x9s In the rear. It sounds good to me.

IM going to add a nice amp, and a small sub of some kind in time. But IM happy with it either way.

Thanks for the responses. I dunno, I was half expecting "if you're only going with speakers in the factory spots, don't waste your time." A project for the spring.

Especially TPeye, I'm definitely looking for something that sounds good at all volumes, not just cranked up. I'll keep them in mind when I look.
