I guess I was wrong!
OK, I like the look of the stock radio and the fit, I bought a CD player (mounted it remotely) and tried to hook both together in (series/parallel?) At first they both worked great (keep in mind I only turned one unit on with the other being off) Now the original stock stereo only has sound from the front passenger speaker while the CD player works just fine
All I did was to splice the power wires and the speaker wires from the CD player into the original harness do you have any clue?

Sounds like the power is flowing back into the amp that's off if something isn't working right. Time to isolate everything use relays. Or just unplug the stock stereo.

Re: I guess I was wrong!
Thanks for the advice, the reason I did this is because the stereo on the CD doesn't work so I thought I would have the best of both worlds with my setup. I am not running a seperate amp, the only amp is the amp in the stereo?

2 stereos = 2 amps. I'm not familiar with the insides of modern car stereos, but just splicing amp outputs together usually sounds like a bad idea without some form of isolation.

Thanks Josh,
I guess my hair brained idea was just that, I obviously screwed up my stock stereo in an attempt to join the two
Thanks for the input and advice.

That could work. You'd just need to solder in a diode. They only allow current to flow in one direction, eliminating backfeeding into either stereo. I dunno how great they'd make your speakers sound, but from an electrical standpoint, that's the solution.

Holly cow, you just can't do that man. Even with only one turned on. And NO diodes will not help. Speakers.... AC..... Diodes.... If you're lucky you didn't really damage the HUs output. But it sounds like you toasted an output or three in the stock HU. Disconnect it now before you kill what ever CD player you're using.

I infact did fry the stock unit
I disconnected everything, threw away the stock stereo and now only have the CD hooked up. Sometimes we learn the hard way by trial and error, good thing I basically got both units for free. Thread
