Feedback on Alpine type-S Speakers and Alpine CDE-9881 deck?

hey i was wondering if anyone had tried installing 6x9 and 4x6 alpine speakers in their car and if they fitted ok or modifications to the grills had to be done. (Btw my car is a 83 Trans Am). I was also wondering if anyone had any feedback on the type-S and Alpine CDE-9881 deck. Keep in mind that i am not looking at getting a amp and sub later. So from wat i heard the type-R were unecessary. I just want to replace the deck and speakers because mine are shot. Also does any1 have any feedback on installing new speakers and do I have the right size speakers?
Thank you

I personally have the 6x9 type s and they fit fine in the rear they sound great and you can crank the tunes with it still being crystal clear.

You've got other problems. No wrong speaker is going to give you 'feedback'. What does it sound like? Does it change when you rev the motor.

That's painfully obveuse....now...
I don't like any of the type-s line. I'd skip the 4x6 and 6x9s and go right for type-r comps in the kicks. One set of speaker instead of two. Some times simple works the best. But if you like rear fill, go for the 6x9s...

I listened to the 6x9 type S's vs the 6x9 type R's at Best Buy one night for about a half hour. I just couldn't bring myself to spending the extra money for the type R's vs the S's so I didn't buy either. I ended up getting a set of Type R's on ebay; but then again I just wanted it to match up the rest of my system which is all type R.

If you want to save a few bucks go with the type S's. I bet you'll never be sorry. They sound great for the money.

Re: Feedback on Alpine type-S Speakers and Alpine CDE-9881 deck?

what kind of sound do you want? The alpines in my car sounded alright what i had to do is fiberglass a sealed inclosure inside the cavity. One pint can and pack of hair $20.00 Alittle cure time and bam. that way you could put an amp on them. I love my memphis audio's 3-ways. It sounded real good berfore i put in my subs. That also fixes the rattles sometimes

I am not sure if they changed them but the 4x6 2 way alpines I had wouldn't fit without modding the bracket. I like the sound of their components better so that is what I am doing when I start my system for my vert. Every Alpine Deck I have ever heard sounded great so no worries there (that's why Lambo and Ferrari uses them also upgrade on the Navigators I am sure there is more also.) Good luck with whatever you choose.
