Upgrading wiring, what about fusible link on Alt./Batt. wire?

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/elec...ml#post3309645

....wanted to ask YOU guys too since this whole topic is really split between two forums.

If I upgrade the alternator wire from the battery, what do I do about the fusible link? I guess I don't understand exactly the whole "traffic" routing of what's going on in there? I'm confused on how to wire this whole thing back up.

Here's the diagram posted in the other thread.

Are you doing the big 3 upgrade?

Usually you leave the factory wiring there, and run an additional (larger size) wire from the Alt to Battery.

I wish there was a way to just get rid of the factory wiring all together, but I don't think we can. Especially if you want to keep the side post terminals.

So you'd have TWO wires running to the alternator? ....seems kinda redundant. There HAS to be a way to run all new wiring, with the proper safety/fuses.

I can run wire, cut, crimp, splice, solder, twist, WHATEVER!!! ....I just need to know WHAT to put WHERE!!!!

The fusible link is nothing more than a large current weak point in case of a short. Otherwords it is like a fuse and has a rating. If you do upgrade the wire with a f.link on it, you should use a regular fuse of appropriate rating on it.
