Trying to decide on a head unit..suggestions?
Ive basically narrowed it down to these two.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...6794&rd=1&rd=1
http://cgi.ebay.com/PIONEER-DEH-P980...QQcmdZViewItem
They both have bluetooth, which is one of the main things I want. I know Pioneer is usually better quality, but the JVC has built in 3.5 monitor, USB port, and Dolby digital surround sound.

I would go with the Pioneer!! If your looking to save a little money try the 7800mp instead of the 980bt. the only difference in the decks is that the 980bt has bluetooth for your phone. if you don't plan on using it why spend the extra $200 for it. my 2 cents.
I have the pioneer 7800mp and i love the deck. since both pioneer and the JVC have 5V preouts its really close to decide on the sound quality difference. Go PIONEER!!

Yeah id go with pioneer without a doubt better quality sound, plus the 7 band eq is nice and helps with the clarity. I have the 980 in my jeep and it sounds crisp. My Iroc has a sony tv w/hard drive, plus it has a 7-band eq ipod link and sd slot, but I paid alot for it $$$. But that 980 is pretty f'n tight!

I got the Deck last week from Crutchfield, and I bought an open box deal. Ended up hooking it up and the display wasnt working.
So I called them, and they are sending me a brand new one. So its all good, im ending up getting a brand new one for 60 bucks off.
I also got the ipod interface, which was 50 dollars. Ill snap a few photo's when I get it all in.
As for speakers, I was thinking of doing Polk Momo series. 4x6 in the dash, and 6x9 in the rear...

Nice, I got my new unit it the mail today, and hooked her up. I have to admit its awesome! It has so much, I actually had to break out the instructions to figure out how to do anything with it. The bluetooth works perfect. (Even better than the factory bluetooth in my 2007 Tundra).

If you want the best quality sound for the price, get an Alpine, either the 9857 or 9885, remember you never hear any of the rapper saying how they're rolling with their Pioneer
Go on Ebay and search Alpine, how often do you see a 20 year old Pioneer or JVC going for more than it cost new? Do a search for Alpine 7903, 7905. The Alpine will be going strong way after the Pioneers and others have went the way of the ghost.
Not to mention, Alpine still provides service for those 20 year old decks and still has parts for them, I needed a piece for a 5 year old Kenwood and "I'm sorry, we don't make that part anymore"

Re: Trying to decide on a head unit..suggestions?
The Pioneer line of decks is always a pretty good value. They usually offer decent internal power if you are unable to run an ext. 4ch amp. They always seem to be pretty feature heavy and sound ok too.
The Alpine decks are nice too, but I prefer their older stuff.
The same goes for Eclipse. That is my personal favorite brand of car cd players, but I hate the looks of the new stuff. If you can find a good used 5v or 8v that is a few years old, go for it (plan on not using the internal amp because it is only 13w rms). They may not have all the style and all the cool features, but man do they sound good.
I currently have a Pioneer Premier DEH-P880PRS deck which has the 24 bit Burr Brown DAC and is a very nice deck. It sounds very good, but I do a fair amount of critical listening and really miss my Eclipse 5442 because it sounded that much better. I sold the Eclipse because I needed the features of the Pioneer to condense the system a little (better built-in crossover, etc..). Over all I am very happy with the Pioneer.
Also, If you are getting a Pioneer, I strongly recommend getting a Premier as they are usually the same price and come with a two year factory warranty vs the Pioneer's one year. (It used to be that Pioneer claimed that the components in the Premier line were higher grade / hand selected, but I doubt that is the case anymore).

Re: Trying to decide on a head unit..suggestions?
This is exaclty what I thought. Went to a car show about 1 year ago and was askin some questions at the Pioneer exhibit. The rep told me the Premier brand wa sthe higher grade untis (hence the name, Premier) yet all the Pioneer' branded products were considerably more expensive...
