subwoofer enclosure
i recently built an inclosure for my 2 12" kicker comps. it sounds great when i have it at a low level, but when i turn them up there is a loud popping noise. does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? let me know please. and thanks in advance
Re: subwoofer enclosure
Sounds like you might be clipping the signal. How are the gains on your amp set? Are they cranked all the way up? If so, turn them all the way down, then SLOWLY turn them up until the music sounds good. One word of advise though; NEVER use the Bass Boost function...it can easily cause clipping (distortion) which causes your subwoofers to overheat and be permanently damaged.

Re: subwoofer enclosure
i tried tuning the gains today and no luck. i basically had to turn them completly off to get it to stop popping... i could barely hear the subs when down that far. then i turned them up a little and i had the same results... being the poping noise... any other suggestions

Re: subwoofer enclosure
Are ur subs dvc's? Check your cones and your wiring to see if they are wired correctly. Also check and make sure your enclosure is air tight, all around.

Re: subwoofer enclosure
if you run the wires from your head to your amp on the same side as the main power feed, you can get some noise but i dont think it would be poping probably more like static. just another thing to keep in mind.

Re: subwoofer enclosure
I also just built a sub box for my 12" Kicker Comps. I'm running a 1000w amp for both. I haven't had a problem. Just go back and check your connections, make sure everything is grounded correctly and that the box is air tight. I used a hot glue gun to seal all the seams and edges of the box... Good luck...
