Since I had the new 4th gen spoiler, I've had water leaking into the hatch through the gasket. The two outer bolts that hold the 4th gen spoiler on are right in the path of the hatch gasket. I've only had the car on the road for a couple thousand miles and the screw is already starting to tear the gasket on one side, and it's got a very distinct imprint on the other side. I don't really see much of a solution here either. Even if I manage to cover the bolt with something so that the gasket doesn't cut, I don't see how I'm going to prevent the gasket from compressing and allowing water in. Has anybody else had this problem with the 4th gen spoiler?

Hey, try some sealer around the hole and on the underside around the bolt.

 

I'm not sure that's going to stop the problem. It's not leaking through the bolt hole, it's preventing the hatch gasket from sealing on the hatch, although the sealer on the bolt may help prevent it from cutting the gasket.

hmmm dont have the problem with mine, sorry.

my bolt gaskets somehow got mutilated so i dont even have them on but mine stays water tight.

Hey Jim how did you get the rust offa the door and did you strip all the paint off or just prime it and how many coats that's a pretty hot paint job ya got..I'm gonna have a shop do my body work but I think I'm gonna paint it what kinda painting tools do ya need....

 

Hmm. People don't seem to be understanding what is leaking on my car. Nothing is leaking through the bolt holes in the hatch. You know the big fat rubber gasket that goes all around the hatch opening on the car? Well, the bolts on the underside of the hatch come down right on that gasket when I close the hatch. In addition to chewing up the gasket, it's preventing it from sealing properly onto the surface of the hatch.

Unless I've got some sort of unique spoiler that is totally different than all of the other 4th gen spoilers, I'm at a loss as to why nobody else is experiencing this. Maybe I'm just special.

Actually, I think it just dawned on me. The instructions said to drill the lower panel large enough so that the bolt goes through it and tightens to the outer panel. I chose not to do that because I didn't want the outer panel to get distorted the first time somebody leaned on the spoiler or pulled the hatch up by it. I guess it's my fault.
