Amp for subs

I got a few question on what amp to get for subs and stuff. Currently I am running a 2 channel 600 watt amp to my back 6 x 9 speakers. I took out my front speakers bc they were being overdriven after i installed the amp. So instead of buying plaate speakers and amping those too i decided to throw 2 10 inch subs in the back.

Now heres the questions. How many watts should an amp have to run two 10 inch subs. And also should I get a 4 channel or a 2 channel. Since im already using the rca jacks on my headunit how cant i connect the new amp to my system?

Thanks for answering my dumb questions lol

Steven

Re: Amp for subs

it depends on the subs every type of sub has a different power rating (rms and peak i believe). if you can give us the brand and model we can get you an answer

Those look to have a power rating of 500w RMS (that is the number to look at, ignore peak or max)

So look for amp who's output is similar.

If you are looking for an additional amp, that is going to be used just for the subs try and find a monoblock class D amp. More efficient then 2 of 4 channel amps, for running subs.

To add additional RCA connectors, they make Y splitters you can put at the end of your 1 set of RCA.

Re: Amp for subs

Ok thanks. Now when I get a splitter for the rca connections I can still control the cutoff frequency for the subs right? oh yea, and since ill be running two subs to i need to look for an amp thats output is about 500w or 1000w if i run both off of it?

Re: Amp for subs

your going to want an amp that puts out 1000.. maybe 1100 or 1200 and keep the gain a little turned down so you dont clip the amp

Re: Amp for subs

exactly you want more amp than sub. you clip the signal and it goes flat. Then you blow the voice coils in your speakers. I had two 350 watt woofers and put in a 800 watt amp to support it. it's kinda like an engine, ya you make power up high but you don't want to push it like that all the time. same with an amp.

Re: Amp for subs

Alright just bough infinity and and 2 infinity subs, thanks. I alss bought a cross over so I can sscrew araound with that alttiel. So I go one last question. Since Ill be running two amps could I just jump the power from the existing amp to the new one? Im running 4 ga wire to the existing amp with an inline fuse. I researched it a little but all I found was a terminal block thast used when you need to change from one gauge to the other. Whats the best way to do this?

Re: Amp for subs

get a block that has one in and two out. best way or the first amp would take most of the juice leaving the second low on power

Re: Amp for subs

Walmart sells cheap distrubution blocks. However, I have jumped the power from one amp to another with good results. But it was 4ga direct to the 960W 4-channel, then 8ga from the 4-channel to the 300W mono amp. So it went logically.

Either way, I dont quite comprehend how one amp will rob another of power depending on the wiring. If they both have a good solid connection it should work. But a distribution block is safer and easier unless you are really on the cheep.

Re: Amp for subs

Yep I stoped by walmart and got a 4 gauge to 8 gauge dual out and some 8 gauge cable. Also got a set of rca connectors for the output of the cross over I bought. Thanks
