I would not get any Sony Car audio, it's pretty much just garbage now. Sony has been riding on their name in Car Audio for a number of years now.

For front speakers you have a couple choices in what type to get, you can get a 4x6 like what you have now. Or you can get a 4x6 plate speaker, that has the mid and tweet separate.

I definitely second that sony is junk now. better off going with pioneer since they are around the same price.

Re: dash speaker size?

I've got a set of Pioneer 4x6 coaxials in my Firebird and they sound great. Also, I've got a set of Pioneer 4x6 plate separates in my Camaro, they also sound great. One thing, the plate speakers fit in my Camaro but not in the Firebird so I had to use the coaxials in the Firebird. The magnet on the Pioneer plate is much larger than the stock speaker magnet plus it's offset so it hit the a/c duct on the driver's side. On the coaxials the magnet is in the center so it didn't hit the duct.

Re: dash speaker size?

I trimmed the plastic and made a custom braket so that i could fit 5.25"s in my dash they sound great compared to the 4x6"s i had in there!!

Nope, you can mis-match different products just fine. Some companies make better subs, then they do amps. Some make great head units, but just OK speakers.

Re: dash speaker size?

all depends on your music. If you listen to music with alot of highs they would be good but if you listen to rap and most rock and r&b I like 2 way speakers better. coaxial speakers sound alot better though just because you have dedicated speakers for highs and mids. also since they are both round and not oblong the sound quality is better.

Re: dash speaker size?

Not to try and take over this thread by any means, but I plan on getting new speakers for the front and back. I've heard only good things about the Kappa seires Infinity makes, and planned on getting the 4x6 plates for the front, and 6x9's for the back. Will the 4x6's fit? If not, any easy modifications? I plan on running these with a Pioneer avh-p5700dvd flip screen head unit, and a 4 channel infinity amp. Anything better?
