DVD in dash Install question

Well I got a good deal on an in dash DVD player so I got it and had it installed. Looks great and plays great. My son has the same model a Valar - ITS-701W except his is not touch screen like mine. Any way after getting it home I notice that they have child proofed the unit and it will only play DVD's if the emergency brake is on. There is a (pink) wire that runs out the back of the unit to the emergency brake hand and once you move it then you can see the pic. I probably could drive with it like this because at just before the first notch on the e-brake the pic comes on. My wife claims she smelled the emergency brake but I didn't. She was just paranoid I thing but don't tell her.

But is there a way to by pass this feature. My son has his on all of the time but he is away at college so I can't see how they did his. I tried cutting the pink wire but all I got was audio and no video. Tomorrow I will take it to a small shop by my house to see what they can do but I would prefer to solve this in my own garage at home. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Re: DVD in dash Install question

Your pink wire may just be a ground wire. Usually what they do for these types of units is force you to put the e-brake on because when that is on there is a ground created and thats how you get the light on your dashboard. Try connecting that pink wire to a constant ground and see if it works for you.

I personally have an old Pioneer in dash that had a wire which was supposed to be connected to the ebrake and all I did with that was ground the wire and it works great!!

It is a ground. I have done it before, but some headunits need a switch put in in that pink wire, to reset the circuit.

Re: DVD in dash Install question

That is what a TR6 is for! Like my Alpine needs like power with foot brake then parking then 2 more foot. the TR6 can do all that is a second! But on older pioneers and lower line sceen it is usually just ground the parking wire. If it needs to be reset before a movie I would do a TR6.
