Need Help Wiring Subs!

HEy!

I have a (Kenwood KAC-8103D 1000W Class D Mono Power Amplifier (KAC8103D)), and right now im running single (Volfenhag ZX4812DVX 12" 1200 Watt Subwoofer ), and this week I am getting second sub, just like the one i already have, and i was wondering how should i wire it!!

Thanx, Alex

I don't know that it would be worth it unless you get a second amp, maybe someone else will know for sure though.

Here's how I see it.

Amp: 2 ohm stable
500 watts rms @ 2 ohms
300 watts rms @ 4 ohms

Sub: dual 4 ohms
400 watts rms

You can't wire everything in parallel because it would put a 1 ohm load on your amp and it would overheat. You can have each sub's voice coils wired in parallel and then wire the two subs together in series, but you'll end up with a 4 ohm load with only 150 watts rms going to each sub. That's the only way I'm seeing right now, but it's late and I may have missed something

Yeah, that looks about right. The two voice coils of each sub are wired in series and then the two subs are wired in parallel. Only difference is that your subs are 4 ohms, so you would end up with a 4 ohm load when it's all done.

Re: Need Help Wiring Subs!

That's the wrong diagram for the subs you have. You need the one for dual 4 ohm voice coil, not the dual 2 ohm. With two DVC 4 ohm subs, you can't get the 2 ohm load that amp is stable at. Sure you could wire to 4 ohms, but that would cut your power output in half.

This diagram works for your subs...

I agree with 87 formy on the possible impedance loads. The only combinations you can get from a pair of those subs are 1 ohm which might blow your amp (send it into protection mode at least), 4 ohm which will reduce the power by half, and 16 oms. Basically, you will either need an additional amp like the one you have or one that is 1 ohm stable and capable of providing the power requirements of both subs.
