Radio Help Please

I have been working on my radio for some time now. I bought the car with no radio and no speakers so i took care of the speakers but im not getting any power. I did a circut test on all the wires to see if any of them where good but none where. Then i tested the fuse box and it doesn't work. The person i bought it from didn't have the stock harness its all loose wires. Please help me. Thanks alot!

First off, you need to give us a model number for the head unit. Each MFG
will have different connections for each wire.

Secondly, are you stating that all of the wires and fuses you tested from
the car's fuse panel do not have voltage? Are you sure you have a good
tester?

What are you using to test the wires/fuses?

Um... just about every manufacturer alive uses the same basic wiring diagram(color wise), so that's not an issue(unless if it's some knock-off from korea or something).

Your problem happens from time to time, I've seen the radio fuse circuit just flat out die, won't do anything. Just re-run a new Ignitoin and Constant wire off the fuse-box somewhere and wah-lah your set.

Gee...ummm, that's a great answer.

Tell me, from that original post are we talking about a stock GM radio?

Are we talking about an aftermarket radio in a Camaro?

Maybe he has one of those 'knock-offs" ?

If you can remember the days when grounds were green instead of black,
and some constants were greeen instead of yellow I might give you some
respect for quoting me.

Re: Radio Help Please

What are you talking about? All do respect to your knowledge but my day job is an audio installer, I hold two levels of MECP National Certification... so if he's dealing with a radio from 1991 or a factory radio then the wiring will be slightly different.

If it's the factory radio, then Orange is the constant wire and Yellow is the Ignition wire.

Lemme know if you guys have any questions.

That's exactly my point.

We don't know what car, or year.

We don't know what radio, mfg, or model.

How can we start helping without having the information about his setup?

He also says the fuse box does not work. Does that mean just the radio
fuse, or every fuse?

Maybe he's using using the AC voltage, current, resistance, or continuity setting on his meter which would give him an incorrect reading.

Back to the original post, IF you have an after-market radio, most likely
the colour codes are as follows:

Yellow > Constant 12 VDC
Red > Accessory 12 VDC
Black > Ground
Orange > Illumination
Blue > Remote to amplifier
Speaker wires > Paired colours with stripes.

Make sure the voltage supply lines are fused (normally 10 amps).

Make sure the speaker wires are phased properly to each speaker for
best sound.

Your multi-meter should be set to read DC voltage (min 12 volt range).

You may ground the meter to a good, clean metal location around
the dashboard area. Painted areas will not work.

Good luck.
