Speaker installation
Speaker installation
New member here. I have a question on speaker replacement. I have just started improvements on a 91 Z28 Convertible.
It looks like it probably has 4x6 in the front and 6x9 in the rear.
Is there any issues with replacing these speakers with ones that can handle some power? i.e. limited speaker magnet space or hard to get to?
Just looking for advice before I tear the top of the dash off and the back side panels.
Thanks.

Re: Speaker installation
Not sure about issues but I went with Boston acoustics 4 by 6 plates in my suburban and they sound great. As far as the 6 by 9's if your gonna put subs in use 6.5 inch mids and tweet set if no sub then yeah 6 by 9's for sure.
Re: Speaker installation
What are the specs for the 4x6 plates from Boston acoustics? Were their any modifications needed to make them fit. From what I heard from them their speaker have some pretty good bass. Having to use a 4x6 its going to be hard getting some good bass from that size. How would you say they sound compared to stock? How's the bass with them? Thanks.
Re: Speaker installation
I made no modifiacations at all they fit right in. only thing I had to do was get longer screws to mount them. As far as putting bass through them I have not done that cause I have a sub and have all low frequency's tuned out.

Re: Speaker installation
As of right now i'm not going to run a sub. I'm going to try and get the sound i want without one. I wanna try and keep as much room as i can. I'm pretty sure i wanna run the Polk 6x9's in the back and either the polk 4x6's or the ones from Boston Acoustics. I wanna get speakers that have good bass (lows), that way i'll just tune them a lil higher but they'll still be capable of the bass. Are there any speakers they you can suggest that you think i can get this sound? Thanks I appreciate your help.

Re: Speaker installation
crutchfield.com there what fits my car page will show you the depth and speaker width and everything you need to know, also if you have a nice cd player in the car they will suggest to you speakers that work really well with your cd player for the loudest best sound in your car. some radios can even be downloaded to from the internet and programmed for a 1991 chevrolet camaro rs or a 2003 chevrolet s10 ext cab. Pretty neat.
