New member here. I have a question on speaker replacement. I have just started improvements on a 91 Z28 Convertible.

It looks like it probably has 4x6 in the front and 6x9 in the rear.

Is there any issues with replacing these speakers with ones that can handle some power? i.e. limited speaker magnet space or hard to get to?

Just looking for advice before I tear the top of the dash off and the back side panels.

havent messed with my dash speaker but i think there is limited space for magnets the 6x9's have room for a pretty good size magnet so that shouldnt be a problem but you will prob have to get some dynomat because when you put some good power 6x9's in you get tons of rattle

Thanks for the repy. Great picture. I actually did the installation last weekend, and because it is a convertible, I ran into a big surprise. When I took the panels off in the back, there wer 6.5" round factory speakers behind the 6x9 grilles. I continued to mount my 6x9's and soon realized why the factory upfitter for the convertibles did not us the 6x9's. With the convertible top hinge plate, there is no room for the 6x9 magenet. I had to change my 6x9's for 6.5" round speakers. Sounds good, but not quite enough bass, so I will likely have to add one subwoffer and amp to my Kenwood head unit, to get a little low end out of the set up. I went with Pioneer speakers front and back and it does sound clean, just needs a little more bass.

Not to sound like a jackass but I remember seeing something couple months back that had the whole process for what your asking. Suggesting you do a search.....
And no i have never messed with my speakers... though after i get my t-tops to stop leaking i will be fixing almost all of my interior

with the sub i would get a good brand not one of the crappy x-plodes because thats exactly what they will do lol RE is a good brand also audio pipes are good just get a good quality sub not one of the cheap ones the price may be tempting but remember you get what you pay for
