Hello everyone! I've got an '86 Firebird, and the original radio/cassette player went to crap. It started switching stations on me...I went from rock to country to gospel to rap without touching anything. It was rather amusing.

Anyway, I installed the CD player that the people I bought the car from gave me. Only problem is

A) CD player doesn't work

B) Antenna plug doesn't quite fit

The piece you plug into the CD player is maybe a quarter inch too small, so it doesn't fit snuggly and after driving for a little, comes loose and I lose reception.

I was wondering if there's some kind of size adapter to remedy this. Thanks!

 

Available at Wal-Mart, Autozone, CSK, O'reilley's. It's a common part for putting stereos in older cars, usually comes in the kit with the factory harness adapter, but can also be gotten seperately.

 

Alrighty. I'll swing by WalMart on my way home, see if they've got anything in stock.

I picked up the mounting kit from WalMart and it didn't come with anything like that, but hey, it's WalMart. How much can I expect...

 

You can buy an antenna plug adapter a Wal-Mart, but aviod the Scoche brand. They have an antenna adapter allright, but it looks like a starfish, with each 'arm' dedicated to a different brand (ford, GM, Honda, etc.).It is really too short IMO and receives signals as good as a starfish.Spend the extra money and get one from Circus City.If the homies there won't wait on you (small purchase; they can't be bothered)order it on line;they have a pretty good website.Also, you may have to modify/hack off your harness plug if you still have one.Make sure you have the correct color wires going to where they have to go;they are posted on this site if you use the search feature.Good luck!!

 

I don't recommend cutting any factory plugs off as you never know when you want to return to stock.Metra makes an adaptor harness for aftermarket radios that your factory harness will plug directly into (P/N 70-1677-1). This harness adaptor will work for most GM vehicles up to 1987. After this GM saw fit to change the radio harness and the antenna male end. For the antenna Metra P/N 40-GM-20 will work for you.

Here's my dilemna:

I have the factory power antenna option as well as the factory cassette with EQ.

I just installed a Delco CD player from an 01 Blazer and noticed that the MALE end of the factory antenna won't fit into the back of the radio; the female end of the cd player is smaller. Anyone know the correct adaptor part number?

 

you can get the adapter at walmart. for like 10 buck you need a universal to 88and up gm
