New Pioneer deck/Polk speakers installed with a bug???

Ok so i just installed a new deck and speakers in my camaro, had a couple snags though, firstly with the deck i had to cut into the radio pod because the pioneer was a hair longer than the oem one and kept hitting the black part that bulges out a bit.

Secondly, the rear driver side i had to drill A new hole for the mounting screw, 3 lined up, one didnt...wtf?

Finally, my front driver side speaker didnt fit right, its up about an 8th of an inch higher than the passenger side. Not only that but when i went to put the dash pad back i noticed my left turn signal was illuminated, my gauges were jacked up (gas said empty, battery said 3 volts, tach kept jumping, OP was pegged) and my high beam light was on and stayed on. After jiggling a couple wires it went back to normal, it seemed to be the ground wire when it got CLOSE to my gauges, never touched, no exposed wire at all.

I just dont get it. Can anyone explain why i had these crappy things happen?

hmm..did you disconnect the negative from the battery before you did all the wiring and what not? im just asking because i replaced my speakers one time and blew a fuse, causing all the lights in my instrument cluster to come on and stay on, when i got it fixed the shop told me to always disconnect the battery when your doing anything electrical, this could be what happened to you, i honestly don't know though. hope i helped.

Re: New Pioneer deck/Polk speakers installed with a bug???

no turns out GM could care less about aftermarket speakers lol

Actually my instructor was a senior GM engineer at the proving gorund for 30 years and made the final decisions on our thirdgens as far as factory struts, mount etc (nice to know people) and he came over when i was fiddling with it and i asked him and he goes: we didnt give a crap about these fancy subs and loud stereos, we just wanted them to go fast"

in any case the magnets from the Polk speakers are obviously larger than the factory ones and it sits so close to the cluster that the magnetic fields were interefereing with eachother causing my gauges (magneticly controlled) to tweak out when the fields got too close

i just spaced it and no problems, before the magnet was resting on the back of the cluster but ive got it all solved now

thanks for the input
