Kick Panel vs Door Pod
Hey all.. I have a decent stereo in my camaro and need some advice. I'm running 2 Rockford Fosgate p2s 2 alpine 6x9s and 2 pioneer 4x6s.. the pioneers were in there when i bought the car and i havent messed with them other than hooking those and the 6x9s up to a 4 channel amp.
My question is: Are kickpanels or door pods better. I ran across a brand new set of Rockford Power 6 1/2s cheap and want to use them. Problem is i have manual windows and manual transmisson.. So im not sure if id be able to use either kick panels or door pods.. any info would be appreciated..
Thanks guys

I honestly would go with a door pod, that would make the speakers closer to you and more out of the way...

would that interfere with the window crank at all? Generally thats would be were i would put the speaker.. would it make any difference if its centered on the bottom or maybe above the window crank if possible?
Re: Kick Panel vs Door Pod
Kicks produce a more correct soundstage because the speakers are more equidistant from your ears. A DSP can help you compensate for the difference but most people aren't that serious about their tunes...I'm an audio geek. LOL

Re: Kick Panel vs Door Pod
well, most people wouldn't cut a hole in the door, but rather build a small speaker pod bolted to the door panel. Do a search, there are tons of them on here...I'm planning to do my own doorpods this weekend...

Re: Kick Panel vs Door Pod
BTW cutting a hole in the door panel isn't a very good idea. speakers wont fit very well and you pose a risk of damaging the speakers. go with a home made pod or many after market that custom make them

I like door pods, but kick panels are an option, yu will get better sound distribution out of a component setup on the doors, you need to build out with them though because they look like crap flushed and they can cause clearance issues, if you build a pod you can even angle them to fire up and any direction you want

Re: Kick Panel vs Door Pod
I've done both. With manual windows, 6.5s in the doors are a tight squeeze. With power windows, you've got to build the door out a mile.
As for sound quality, both have their pros and cons, but I find that it's a lot easier to correct the frequency response issues associated with kick panel placement than it is to try and get a good soundstage from door locations.

Re: Kick Panel vs Door Pod
My door pods are fairly slim. They stick out less than the width of the arm rests. I have power windows and have holes cut into the door to fit up to a 3" (max) deep midbass speaker.
