speaker choice

Well I got my new head unit in, and that's all working awesome. I took the dash pad off today because the drivers side speaker has been rattling ever since I got the car. I Discovered today, that its not because its just loose, it the speaker itself that is rattling. So, I just decided I'm going to replace them. First the dash speakers, then Ill do the rears later. The car came with Boston acoustic 2 way speakers that are pretty decent, but are a couple years old and don't sound as great as I want them to. So, From crutchfield what are the best speakers for the dash, and the sails? My head unit puts out 52x4 with 17watts RMS.

I was thinking these for the front

Re: speaker choice

Kicker makes an excellent speaker for your dash and Kicker seperates for the rear. I had these in an 86 camaro with 8" subs and it sounded really great.

Re: speaker choice

I have those exact speaker's in my dash right now, and they sound great, from the headunit they can handle the bass for the most part, even without bass blockers (though recommended). They hit the highs just as good as tweeters do, and are extremely reliable, and fit in the dash spots without modification, and clear-sounding for the price.

What I didn't like about them, is that they do not line up with the factory mounting holes for the stock speakers, I had to make new holes.

Re: speaker choice

I run these http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130TSA6...82R.html?tp=91 - in my sail panels except mine are the three-ways, they sound great amped @ 4ohms by http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130GM53...0T.html?tp=115 -- But you can get the amp at walmart for $120. Wonder why crutch has it so high priced?
Make sure you get 2 foam 6x9 backings for it if your fiberglass ones are shot, they should be $10 for both, they add the lows to the 6x9's, make it sound real nice and surprisingly hard hitting.

Re: speaker choice

well, i take it you dont have any subs? Do you plan on adding any in the future. I have a set of Alpine 6x9s that sound real nice, just a tad bit of bass but real nice on midrange and highs. They compliment the 2 10" subs in the rear well. If you aren't looking to add subs later, you might look into a set of Rockford 6x9s, I have a set in the cavalier and they sound extremely nice, get decent lows for 6x9s but still provide highs with the tweeter built in. Check sonicelectronix.com and woofersetc.com, i usually find they are better priced than crutchfield.

Re: speaker choice

i would recommend looking for a 4x6 plate. it separates the midrange and the tweet. giving you a more clear sound. infiniti makes a pretty good one, and you can never go wrong with an eclipse point source. if you can find em.

i would also say, try and find a cheap 4-channel amp. it will help with filtering out the lows, and give you more power. cause your head unit is MAYBE pushing 11-12w per channel.

good luck bro

Re: speaker choice

thanks guys! yeah, for now I am not going to be putting in an amp to power the speakers. If I do get a sub, it is going to be a powered sub with the amp built in. oh yeah, and what kind of bass blockers and baffles should I get for the speakers I have posted in my first post?

Re: speaker choice

I run them with no baffles and just a bass blocker, really, when your not dealing with bass, you don't need baffles.
