Radio mounting kit!!

Just thought I'd let some people know, if they didn't know already that the mounting kit plate thing for aftermarket radios from a 93 and newer camaro also work with our 3rd gens. If you go on crutchfield it says it doesn't but I just put mine in from my old 94 camaro I just got rid of. I had my radio almost flush with the mounting plate so I had to move it just a bit out but still almost flush and I think it looks wayyy better than the one that was in there. It did have one that was on crutchfield that stuck out about 2 inches. It was a tight fit in the back because I did have it pushed back so much but I just pushed a bit and pulled out the bottom sides of the console and it works great. i can get pics if interested.

Re: Radio mounting kit!!

Is this in a camaro or firebird? I'd like to see pics of the different adapters for single din as I am about to pull mine out and would like to get the better one around.

If I could get it to fit in the 'bird console it should flush mount a camaro easily.

Re: Radio mounting kit!!

This is on my 89 camaro I just got. I had this kit in my 94 camaro. I have a pic on there on where you cut in red and the yellow is the parts removed. The big piece on the right was needed for the 94 but not on ours. The kit actually gets flipped around for the 94 so I did the same for my 89. This means the piece sticking out the back that you cut off goes on the left side when looking at your dash/radio. I made the radio stick out just barely past flush and then pushed pretty hard but not too much and pulled out on the bottom of the console by your feet. If you look in the gap where the radio goes you can see the big bumps that the radio hits. Just make sure you grab both pieces because I think you can grab only the console and you want the inside layer too. It may take some work but I got it pretty easily. I love this kit way more than the one that sticks way out.

Re: Radio mounting kit!!

Well I believe all the consoles were the same for the 3rd gen camaros but if your console looks like mine then it should look just like that. Not perfect flush but close. Just look at the pics for an example

Re: Radio mounting kit!!

that looks amazing...i have the same alpine radio in my car. Unfortantly mine is a firebird and we all know how restrictive it is inside these cars. Mine sticks out a good 2 or three inches. It works and looks decent but i really like the flush look. My buddy has a flush mount one in his 92 firebird but he had to do alot of cuting and die griding back there to get it to fit flush. I personally dont want to cut all of that up.

What all did you do to get it to fit in there and about how deep is your headunit?

Re: Radio mounting kit!!

While its not a thirdgen, I do have one of the humount kits in my 97 GTP.

Name: thursday002.jpg
Views: 2362
Size: 87.5 KB

Great little piece. Dont mind the scratch; this is the second deck to be installed in the kit because the first one was stolen (even though the kit was still there). The camera angle makes the kit look like its crooked; just my bad photography, not the kit. Well worth the money and it was really cool to see the upper logo light up red like the rest of the dash.

As for getting a flush mount kit to work in a 3rd gen, I did have to remove the metal support bracket behind the deck and trim away a bit of the duct work behind it, but I may have had a longer-than-usual deck. The flush mount (think it was a Scoche kit? can't quite remember) also let me do a little bit of stealth work to hide the deck in plain sight when the face was removed.

Here's my HUmount. Great product. Although I had to do some trimming on the radio trim plate.

Ahhh........... that looks good! The one question I have is if the yellow illumination option matches the stock lights...and how good it would look against my red interior...
