Will an '88 stereo work in my '87 IROC?
Hey Guys, I have question. Will the factory radio / cassette player from an '88 IROC connect to the factory harness in an '87?
Here's why I ask. My friend wants to sell a modified '88 Delco radio / cassette player with equalizer he bought for his '88 IROC that was upgraded internally to "modern" specifications. It also incorporates a 1/4" line-in jack to plug in an Ipod or Satellite radio. It is designed to use the original wire harness connector and is visually indistinguishable from a factory stock unit. The unit is unused and with the exception of the exterior case, a "new" player.
I'd like to install this unit into my '87 IROC but I seem to remember something about the plug on the wiring harness being different between the '87 and '88 models. (The player in my car is not a Bose unit.)
Does anyone know the answer? Thanks.

If the harness in your 87 Camaro is intact, it most likely will not fit. The reason I say this is 88 is the year GM decided to change the style of the wire harness plug behind the radio. Some 88 model cars from GM have the older style that has like 3-4 connectors (like your 87 probably has), and then the 88 and up used a style that was a big plug that had like 3-4 mini plugs all attached. If it in fact doesn't fit, you could always purchase the newer style reverse harness, and adapt that into your cars wiring.

Yeah, I thought I had read something like that. I'm glad I asked rather than tear the dash apart. Thanks, vahn.
