I just completed by fiberglass kick panels. During the process I looked for photos of some within the site, but was unable to find a thread dedicated to showcasing some. So I thought I would start one and upload mine. They are MB Quart speakers and they sound great.

 

Those look really good, did you make them yourself? Sounds like you did, either way I like them a lot and if I new how to use fiberglass this is something I would totally do!

I did make them- I had planned on making a bunch and selling them on here- After sanding for hours and hours, I decided that I would probably only make about $2 an hour so I scrapped that idea. I did have a customer (millwork company) create about 50 rings for me. So I have them for a 6.5 inch speaker. Those are the base to build your form. The project was not difficult, it was just time consuming and took patience.

It was really worth it. The sound is amazing. I am a reseller for car audio. I don't really sell much anymore- but if someone wanted something I could buy it wholesale and pass on a good price.

 

I agree; those look great and they are really labor-intesive to get them to look good. I tried twice with my Camaro and never had them come out that nice. When I got the GTP, I went lazy and bought qforms. Not the greatest, but they looked much better than any of my previous attempts and I got them at wholesale cost. After a couple layers of fiberglass and clay, they were much improved and were much better image-wise than the stock spots (which 3rd gens have a huge problem with).

How far are they sticking out. Just want to know if they would be ok in a car with manual transmission.

 

 

I've built a few, they are a pain in the butt to do. Problem with selling them is that nobody wants to pay what they are worth to build them. Lot's of cheapskates out there that want something for nothing.

I built a set and was going to sell them for $125 shipped, but decided it was too much work for the little money.........$250 would have been a better price, but no one wants to pay that.

Thanks for the kind comments. Yes they are too time consuming to sell. How far do they stick out. Well I have not measured, but I built mine to be somewhat flat. They are in no way a hinderance at all. Do I think you can use them with a standard tranny? No. They are much less intrusive then I thought they would be. If I had guess I would say no more than 4-6 inches. As for sound? I am 34 years young- have built for my self 7-10 systems for my rides. Killer systems not an amp and a sub. Talking multiple amp systems. I always power my highs. They are more important to me than the subs. Anyway these are the best sounding units I have ever installed upfront. They are tight- deep and rick. MB Quart does have something to do with it. But the enclosures are very very sound. If I were to finish them out completely- I would have to agree that 250-350 would be a fair price based on time consumption.

 

Do you have any of those rings left? How much would you sell 4 Rings for

The tweeters were placed in the door in a traditional tweeter location. Tweeters are very directional. Aimed directly at the driver- they can and will give you a headache. Also the farther away from the driver (speaker driver that is or the 6 inch speaker) the better sound. It allows you to create better imaging and depth to the sound. Also it takes up less room in the floor to place them in the door.

As for the door- Well this car is still in progress as a result- I had not replaced the newly finish parts on the door as of the picture time. The door has since been completed.

How much would it cost to whip you up a set? In the winter, I probably would be willing to create some- now it is nice out and I want to drive her around. It literally takes about 25-30 hours to do a set the right way. They would cost too much. Probably around 250 or so.

 

250.. no offense but ill pass on that.. i plan on fitting some 6 inch speakers in the dash somehow...

cheap plastic Q forms for 189.95 plus shipping, plus tax lets see you are probably at 230 by now. Or you can have someone fiberglass something you can stand on (Literally). And I have heard that Q forms don't even sound good. But hey- It takes a ton of time to build. You can build a set for probably 25 bucks. In most cases it takes 3-5 trys before they look, fit, and sound good.

Really I am not offering to build a set for anyone. They take too much time and I don't think anyone is really willing to pay a fair price.

 

Courious, If I could figure out a way to mass produce these panels. What would you guys be willing to pay for a set?

Name the price.

 

$250 is a pretty fair price on something like this, you have to take into account all the time it takes to create, form, and build something like this.

Also kicks are going to give you the best sound, you'll have better imaging. 6.5's in the dash isn't going to sound all the great. Everything in the dash will most likely rattle, plus after all the work to get them in there. The imaging will be off, and just won't sound as good as kicks.
