I'm looking into a pair of Rockford Fosgate Punch P3 12" subs... I'm trying to figure out the right amp to run them... I'm trying to stay with the same brand but will look into other kinds...
Just looking for informational opinions or ideas.... thanks!

Re: Rockford Fosgate Question
now the 700 watts? does each sub get 700? or do they each get 350?
Re: Rockford Fosgate Question
Well I know I'm new to this forum but I know my car audio. If you really want something to make those P3's slam, look into an old school
PPI PC2150. You can find them on ebay only, well maybe craigslist. You'll spend between $150-$200 but that amp rocks!! There's some other great amps for that price on ebay. But if you want to stay with Rockford I'd at least go with the T500 bd.

Re: Rockford Fosgate Question
Be warned the the Rockford amps us "proprietary" components... so if they break and are not under warranty, it's probably cheaper to get a whole new one than to fix...

Phoenix Gold Amps are the best on powering Rockfard Subs and never overheat and put out super clean power!!!!! Phoenix Gold is on high price end but they last!!!

Re: Rockford Fosgate Question
Not true, I have had several fixed, Rockford has a set price for fixing them or I got a stereo shop to fix one too.

Re: Rockford Fosgate Question
With the P3s you can run the p500-1 amp or if i remember correctly the guy at the audio store said you could run the p300-1 amp as well. I have the p300-1 and its rms is 300 but max is like 1200 something or a little less.

Re: Rockford Fosgate Question
Okay, Assuming you are looking at the 08 model p3's (the ones with dual voice coils) then each sub is rated at 500 watts RMS (Not max) so to run these subs to the Rockford Spec you would need a 1000 watt RMS amp. Now depending on the voice coil configuration, depending on whether it is dual 4 ohm coils or dual 2 ohm coils matters. If you get the dual 4 ohm coils you can wire the subs to get a final 1 ohm load, which if you are looking at a new fosgate amp, they do their rated power at 1 ohm. The Rockford P1000-1bd is an excellent choice for the dual 4 ohm VC setup. The amp will do 1000 watts RMS at 1 ohm and a little extra if you have a good electrical setup. Now, there are other amps out there that would save you a bit of money. Buying the p1000-1bd with warranty will cost you over $400 usually. Yes i know you can get them on ebay for $200 but that is with no warranty from Rockford, so if you fry your amp your out of luck. But a good budget priced amp that would pair well with the p3s is the AudioQue 1200d. This runs about $220 brand new with warranty and is a solid amp.

and to the gentleman that said he was hitting 180 on a DB meter. This is not an accurate reading. The decibel level is measured using what is called a TermLab (or TL). This is what all audio competitions use to measure the sound pressure level (SPL). This is also the unit that NASA uses to measure the SPL of space shuttle launches. It is the only true method of measuring SPL. Also if you were to listen to 180db's for daily listening, you would most likely have been deaf a long time ago. Find a local car audio competition and demo someones vehicle that does 145-150 dbs and see if you can stand that. (the 145-150 range is very loud and a respectable number for SPL competitions.
