Re: speaker shape and what kind?
I don't know either, but there's only 11 screws to take out to find out - you justhave to take the dash pad off the top - 4 screws in the defroster vents, and 7 screws up under the edge of the dashpad. I want to say they are 4x6, but better remove those 11 screws to verify. The sail panel speakers are 6x9.

Give the guy a break
I'd highly reccomend fitting a round speaker in there because plain and simple they are gonna be more efficient that an oval...any 4x6 sounds awful.Guaranteed.
Go ahead n try it but u are gonna wanna upgrade in 5 mins....so try fitting a 3.5,4,4.5,5,5.25 etc
You'll b glad u did

Re: speaker shape and what kind?
The easy part is finding out the size but the hard part is finding out what kind of speaker to put in it (Name brand and type). Im in that stage right now with my Bird and i leaning towards a plate speaker. i think it will give me a better midrange and treble.
Btw... here are some pics of my 4x6s in my Bird they should be the same in your car
hope this helps

I have cadence speakers in my dash, they're great, there 3 inch circles. (with tweeter) many of my buddys have pionner speakers they sound great and there resonable. I encourage you to look up cadence speakers, during your search for speakers.

Re: speaker shape and what kind?
i got interfires in my car and i like them a lot. the audio shop i worked at thats what we carried they are about average price but the sound quality is way above average. i did a lot of installs with jvc decks with the interfire speakers running of just the deck and man it shocked me how good they sounded, it was like i put an amp in there too. they sounded like the systems in the newer cars with factory amps. never had a dissatisfied customer they all loved them. also check out some powerbass speakers, memphis is really good too
