lowes roofing material for sound deadening??
i know some people have bought lowes roofing material as sound deadener
just curious if it gets the job done???
i just wana reduce road noise and metal/plastic rattles.
im not running big audio equipment. so before i spend a fortune on dynamat or b-quiet or secondskin or raamat or fatmat etc....
just curious if theres a trick to this and save some money.

I used large Cool It mat materials to cover the majority of areas that I wanted to cover then also used the peel and seal material from Lowes to cover some of the smaller void areas. It works okay on floor pans and such but not too well on vertical surfaces.
Good luck

FYI...b-quiet is roofing material advertised as sound deadener.
I use Dynamat Extreme in my car...it's a bit expensive but well worth it...and I plan on putting in a good sounding system (just one sub).
If you are going to deaden your car, do it right and spend the extra few $$

Re: lowes roofing material for sound deadening??
I have used "Peel and Seal" in my vehicles before. Sound deadners come in two main flavors- asphalt-based and butyl-based. The cheaper stuff (like the stuff you find at Lowes & Home Depot) is asphault based. Works ok, may smell a bit funny. Comperable sized butyl material will always beat asphalt, but there is usually a pretty decent difference in price.
With all that said, one or two layers of the cheaper stuff on the floor is better than nothing and I did see a noticiable difference in noise. I'd caution putting it anywhere verticle (as the heat can make it slide down), but the floor should be fine.
Second Skin's a good choice if you're looking to step it up

Re: lowes roofing material for sound deadening??
I have it in my car, and for about a year my car sat outside at my parents house.
Even with the hot summer we had last year (95+ degree days), the seal and peal I used has held up great, hasn't fallen and doesn't smell at all either.
You just need to make sure when applying that the surface your putting it on is clean.
