amp not getting full power
amp not getting full power
okay so im running a 2000w hifonics amp to my audioque hdc3 12, and a 1000w California amp to my mids. The first time i turned it on, everything was fine on low volume, then i turned it up to about half, and the amp to my sub just turned off, and i haven't been able to get it to power up fully since (no power light, but the amp lights are dimly lit). Ive tested the amp, theres nothing wrong with it. and all my wires are connected good, and i have 0 gauge wire.
So is there something wrong with my wiring somewhere, or do i need to get a high output alternator and possible another battery?

Re: amp not getting full power
You said you've tested the amp? Like in another vehicle? How do you know it's not something wrong with the amp?
More than likely it IS a problem with your amp, because 1000w rms (which that amp isn't pushing) shouldn't noticeably move your voltage.
What alt do you have?
You say you have 0 gauge wire, explain where you have it at?
Check your ground, and is it in 0 gauge, also? Make sure it's connected to bare metal.
Just let us know, i know there are a few experienced audio guys in here. We'll find an answer.

Re: amp not getting full power
if the lower power amp is known to work, swap that one out for the higher power one. this will tell you right away if its the wiring/connections/etc going to the amp
if it doesn't work, your amp's no good and may need to get repaired.
if it does work, then you'll want to find out which wiring is causing the issue. try switching one set of wires (power, rca's, speaker) at a time to see if there is any change in operation.
skip the cap; make sure you've done the big 3 first, followed by an alt if necessary, then battery. you're never really going to hit max power in normal playback, but that can be a lot of amperage depending on your vehicle (what year is your car and what size alt do you have now?)
