I am am in the process of looking to buy a third-gen camaro vert. Right now I have a 98 Regal, with a Kenwood DDX512 2Din hu. From what I've seen 2dins can be made to fit in the camaro, but I'm not crazy about how it looks, and want something less prone to theft because I'm getting a convertible.

My first question is, how easy would it be to switch the hu and cimate control so the hu is on top? I want to do that for two reasons...1 I think it would be easier to access the hu if it's on top and I will definatelly be reaching for that more. 2, I wannt to get a hu with flip out sceen, and I don't want the screen blocking the climate control.

Now, for chosing a hu...I want a single din for a couple reasons. 1 I think its less prone to theft and 2 I want to get one of the sweet illuminated text mounting plates. I would like it to have a flip out touchscreen, DVD player, regular radio, and aux input. It also needs to have either iPod audio/video hookup or a harddrive hookup (at least 80Gb for music/video, I can upgrade the hdd myself if its possible) I would also like it to have hokup for backup camera because of the poor visibility with a glass window vert. My current hu physical and screen buttons can change colors, and has a user settable background and startup screen. It would be nice if my new one had this aswell. But I want to buttons to be red if nothing else. Bluetooth would be nice.*

Okay, so a couple weeks ago I purchased a '92 Vert. I've spent the last couple weeks doing some minor things to get the car running well (brake hoses, tie rod ends, alternator), and I finally was able to look at the HU/HVAC setup. I took everything out of that space, and mounted the metal bracket that holds the HVAC controls upside down where the radio would normally mount (it was a direct fit). I can then shave a little off the bracket on what is now the right side so that it gives way for the HVAC control like the other side. Once I do that the HVAC control can mount to it and I can simply put the HVAC/Radio bezel on upside down.

Now my problem is what to do about a radio. Because it's a convertible, I would like to attach the faceplate from a stock radio to give the appearance that that is what's installed. I would then either mount a Head Unit behind that (or CarPC screen) or would have a screen flip out straight up out of the top. I did some measuring, and it looks like a HU with a flip up screen would hit the dash and not open properly unless I don't put it in centered. Right now I'm trying to decide if I should go with a flip up screen (if there's even room) or a 1.5 DIN screen and if I should go with a HU or CarPC.
