Storage area Sub woofer
I am trying to eliminate some weight from the back of my car as well as hide my sub-woofer a little better for a cleaner more factory look. Has any of you installed hidden a 10" or 12" into the compartment on the drivers side in the back of the car? If so what dimensions and materials did you use? How did the setup sound? I am running a Pioneer head unit, with a 800 watt RMS mono block 2 ohm stable amp and matching 12 in subs (currently 2). Right now the setup is actually too loud/strong for my old Butt... I guess thats a hint I am getting too old...
Anyway let me know what you think.
BTW I did search a lot for about 2 weeks now, but I think I am using the wrong words if you can direct me to a board that has this information I'd greatly appreciate it!
Thanks

with the shape of that area, to get any usable space, you'll definitely need to do a fiberglass enclosure. First, Build a mounting ring for the sub out of MDF. Next, you'll want to fiberglass the rear half of the box to get the shape you need to fit in that area. Once cured, you can use dowels to set up where you want the ring spaced from the rear (make sure you have enough room for the magnet to vent). pull fleece or similar over the mounting ring and attach it to the rear section of glass you already laid. glass over, cut out hole for sub and voila!
(over simplified, but that's about it)

I put a 10" in the space where the spare tire was. Pounds hard, obvious that there is a sub in the sound system, but not nearly as loud as the dual trunk sub set ups.

I've been looking at doing something very similar for quite some time. You said in the other thread that you only had .6 cubic feet with that box. Is that really enough for a 10" sub? I was looking at putting a JBL 10" in that space, but I read somewhere that I needed about 1.0-1.1 cubic feet for it to sound good.

Re: Storage area Sub woofer
I've been working on this idea for a while now but never got around to finishing it, I'm using the passenger side. I'll post some pics tonight.
This is what I've got so far...

It'll fit way better after some trimming and bodywork.

I reinforced the original plastic panel and glassed a retainer for the sub to the front of it. gonna shape it some more and then paint it wrinkle finish black so it'll blend in to the back better.

Re: Storage area Sub woofer
I've been curious about using the storage area as well.... Maybe use a free-air sub and do a baffle board setup? There is way more than a cubic foot of space there, if you include the space where the rear of the quarter panel drops down. Havent got around to it, but I am going to do this someday. I cannot risk losing the spare tire, so thats out...

I've gotten it completed now haven't had time to post pics. I blew my motor and have been messing around with my DD a bit I'll try to get some pics up later.

Still not sure why it came out glossy I used wrinkle finish black paint but some spots came out smooth and shiny.
