should go with stock or this GPS system
I have a dual din Pioneer GPS system but it is started to go flaky.
I wanted to return my IROC to stock with this radio, that's been modified for an MP3 player input.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/120982753035...035%26_rdc%3D1
But I happened this GPS system and now I'm on the fence.

Which would you go for. Thanks for you opinions.

Re: should go with stock or this GPS system
3 warning signs pop up...
If it is this or stock..my highly opinionated thought would be stock...
If you want 2Din and a good GPS...well, go with quality...I have 2 Pioneers and while the e brake bypass is a PITA, it seems to work well. (AVIC-Z140BH
and a 1 din AVH-P6300BT) The Kenwood Excelon is a good choice too, but a bit pricey...
In short...you get what you pay for...
- A stylus/pen to use the tough screen? Not to be too sarcastic...but that is not a distracted driver issue...not at all...
- Hitachi...I used to sell Hitachi one upon a time...although they offered excellent product when they did it themselves...they have badged many inferior outsourced products as of late...so I'd really read up on the reviews with this one...
- Spelling mistakes on a website...I administer many forums and the #1 giveaway to a spammer is spelling and grammar...so my spidey senses went up a bit...habit I guess...

Re: should go with stock or this GPS system
I've already have a Pioneer GPS system that I'm looking to replace because the map keeps running away and ends up out over the pacific somewhere.
Yeah I know it is risky but it has 1 yr. warranty the warehouse is local in California and I can always return it back to if i decide to in the future. Thanks for opinion but I decided to get the GPS system since it has like 14000+ feedback with 98.8% positive.
Oh and Hitachi only makes the CD/DVD player the rest is made in China but the distributor is in California. Probable why the English and spelling isn't so good.
I will post my results after I've had in a while.
For $208 and 1 yr warranty not a big risk.

I checked and you don't need to use the stylus pen and it has a remote also.

Cheap Chinese junk. I wouldn't pay $10 for that, shipped! Sorry to hear your having issues with your Pioneer, I loved my unit I had in my GTO. I had the AVIC U310BT and it worked great. I would stick with a known reputable brand though, Kenwood has always been one of my favorites. The handbrake bypass for this was easy. just ground the wire, done.
Here's a picture of the Pioneer mounted in my GTO.

Re: should go with stock or this GPS system
Well I'm going to install it in a week or so and I can return it if I don't like it, but all the reviews I've read are positive. I'm sure when Pioneer first opened people were skeptical of them. Anyway my pioneer not only runs the map into the Pacific ocean but the touch screen only works occasionally.
I've bought other parts from China (Champion all aluminum radiator) that work great.

Personnally I like the stock look. If I really need the GPS I just take it out of one of our other vehicles.
Techinically speaking the GM radio you are looking at on Ebay is a more 4th gen than 3rd gen, isn't it? Nonetheless it has a good clean look to it and the CD player w/ auxiliary would be cool.

Yeah I know its not 3rd gen radio but I didn't want a cassette player. I don't have any cassettes. If Delco made a CD player for our cars that what it would look like.

Also with GPS system it plays DVDs, controls an Ipod, has rear view camera, has a USB port and can can read a SD flash card, and has TV. I can go back if I want later with a 1 year warranty or i can sell it on eBay.

Does this fit right into place without having to modify anything?

Re: should go with stock or this GPS system
I did a full system using the stock head unit. Bought a delco 80's cassette HU with Eq for 180 on ebay, with rear AUX input. Went with jl speakers all around, amplified by a focal soild 4, four channel amp, 75 watts per channel. Currently have 2 diamond audio 10 inch subs in a sealed encloure, hooked up to a 900rms kenwood amp. Soon going to be upgrading to 2 JL 10w7's.
Trust me, with the right equipment the stock stereo can sound amazing. Had to go with bass blockers on the front speakers, as the crossover on the amp was still letting in too much bass for the small front speakers. Got the gains set nice, so the 4 channel does all the work and the HU barely gets warm at high volume. Plently of bass, and plenty of volume with great clarity.
For the inputs i ran the aux from the HU under the center console and into the arm rest console. In there i connected it to a small aux switch where it branches to my satellite radio and a short aux cable. Just have to flip the switch to change from ipod to satellite radio. One of the cassette buttons on the radio switch from aux mode to regular radio.
