Delco radio going haywire
I've been searching all over for a solution to this problem but couldn't find anything so i figured I'd go the experts
I Installed a head unit from a 2001 tahoe a few weeks ago and everything was fine. For the past week, the volume has been going from full blast to dead silent on it's own after afew minutes of being on and once this starts to happen the volume **** has no control over it. I've already tried cutting and taping the green sound leveling wire to no avail. The unit has a slave CD player as well which I havent hooked up yet, although I doubt that has anything to do with it. Everything went right into the factory harness so i din't splice anything. Any ideas?

i dont know what your radios problem is. i will tell you though ive had dozens of gm's and i would buy a walmart head unit before i spent a dime on a delco radio. they sound bad, the lights and buttons always go out,etc.. the first thing i do is tear out the hu and put something decent in. you can get a hu that does about everything modern radio should do from sonic electronics for 120-130 and they have free shipping and adapters. the stock ones in my 03 and my 07 monte (bought almost new) lasted about a week

Re: Delco radio going haywire
Does it go from full blast to silent back to full blast, or does it gradually get quieter and then just kaput? If so, the radio out of the Tahoe may have a different minimum/maximum impedance than the speakers that are connected to it, causing it to go into protect mode. I used to think that all Delco speakers were 4 ohms, until I did a speaker swap on the '06 Grand Prix I used to have, and pulled out speakers that had anything from 3 to 6 ohms.
Are your speakers OEM or aftermarket?
