will this work???

OK so i got a pair of the Bose kick panel speakers for very cheap (10 bucks ) the other day and im just wondering that since there about 5 inch speakers in there can i just take the speakers out and set another speaker in there and wire them up to my head unit at all. i dint pay that much for them and i only got them for the enclosure anyways so i wouldn't be disappointed if i couldnt

Yes you can. I was thinking about doing that too. But since the speaker will be way down below, the sound spectrum will be off. In other words, the sound direction will not be "at your ears." The ONLY reason that these speakers where made for was to produce mid-range bass frequencies. How do I know that? Easy. If you look at the speaker itself, there is no smaller cone mounted on the dust cap. The small cone helps produce high frequencies. Another give away is that the plastic enclosure is ported, which helps produce a "deeper" tone that is not audible with a sealed enclosure. The downfall to this type of kickpanel is that the passengerside kickpanel will cover the small hole in the hush panel which will block the courtesy/foot light. So you will need to find a small plastic bracket that holds the housing to a 194 bulb.

Re: will this work???

Some correct me if I'm wrong but if he just wired the kickpanels up to whatever head unit he has wouldn't the impedance be to low or high (assuming he still has the dash speakers wired up to the head units front channel also)? It would be a 4 ohm load from the kickpanel and a 4 ohm load from the dash speaker. So if wired in series or parallel you never get back to your 4 ohm load per channel which most head units are. He drops the ohms to low the head unit is gonna eventually burn out. Anyone understand all this stuff more. It hate to misguide anyone but also would hate to not put this out there and someone burn up their head unit.

Re: will this work???

A head unit can handle 8 ohms easily. Now we are walking in dangerous territory is we drop the impendance load down to 1 ohm. 2 ohms is iffy. But wiring in series would be safer. There won't be much of a difference is sound though. So with that said, you would get better sound with just the dash speakers. Besides, the rear 6x9's are louder than the fronts.

Re: will this work???

Ok yea ill try to get some pics up manta but like I said early I believe they just need to have the carpet put back on and I know this I off subject but does anyone know where to get a cheap engine found out (after it over heated on me 30 miles away from home) that my thermostat and oil pump went out in the same day and caused all the bearings in the top and bottom of my motor to go out. And guys just saying I'm a motor type guy y'all lost me talking about ohms and all that kinda stuff lol
