Ok, the amp i have in requires 8 gage power wire. I'm currently using 12 gage. I know thats a big difference. What will using a smaller wire than required do?

A thinner wire will not be able to handle as much amperage as a larger wire will. Durning high amp pulls, the resistance will heat up the wire, and you dont want that. It could possibly be a fire hazzard. Never undersize your wire.

Oh, wow. I'll get that changed out right away. I thought that it might just not send as much power to the amp. The wires were from my old little amp. I just left them there and hooked up the new amp. Thanx for the warrning

it will also make the amp work twice as hard to help the volts it needs to perform right which in return will make the amp get hotter
