Speaker Information

Can anyone provide some insight on the speakers in the pictures?
Were they part of a special sound package?
Rare? Common?

Thanks.

Re: Speaker Information

Those are the UQ7 subwoofer speakers. They came with an amp and a control on the dash.

I was going to say that the subs are no longer available but the 4x6s are.I just restored my UQ7 Sound System, had the subs rebuilt by a old local electronics shop.he still had the cones in his stock room.I got lucky I guess.

Re: Speaker Information

Very cool, that's a lot of effort in your restoration. The speakers seem to be in really good shape, the owner said he pulled the original system when it was new for an aftermarket system.

Re: Speaker Information

You might be able to sell them to someone on TGO if their doing a serious restoration.

Re: Speaker Information

mine came with them stock and they sounded good for 80's setup, but they didnt last very long before the cones all deteriorated. and any decent 6x9 setup is way better. you dont see whats behind the sail cover anyway so i dont know why people go to such expense to restore them

I restored mine a couple of years ago. The total costs was less then $600.00, however the 86WS6 is an all original 30K mile car, and restoring the Performance Sound system maintains originality. That's the reason some owners restore them. Folks at the car show gather around to hear the system working. It will not compare to a current technology aftermarket system, but for a 1986 vintage system it is impressive.

Ian Kee at Kee Audio custom built the replacement subs, and rebuilt the enclosures. He changed out from 4 ohm subs to 2 ohm which boosted the sound level quite a bit. Lucky for me my amp was good, and I scored a perfect original style HU off of e-bay cheap.
