I killed my alternator today, stereo draws too much power
well, today i was on my way to the auto parts store for some cleaning supplies and they just closed 10 mins ago. i go back to my car, and it doesn't start. so here i think it's the battery being that i know it's been drained a little with all the pull i have on it,( stereo, neons, fog lights, and so on. so i get the guy to sell me a new battery even though they just closed, and my car starts, but the volts only make it up to like 09 and 10v. so this is bothering me. i know i'll have to get a new alternator tomorrow, but what kind, size wise should i get? i seen a camaro on a web page before with 2 alternators for his system. do i need something like that. what do i need to allow my car to handle my stereo? i already have a capasitor. i am planning to have an engine swap in a few weeks as well. i'm going from a 2.8 to a 350. will i be able to use the same alternator for both engines?

I doubt you'll need dual alternators. Depending on how much current your amps are pulling, you may need a high output alternator. Most parts stores will not carry such an item. Check you phone book for local alt shops or call a few of the better car audio stores in your area and ask where they send the customers who need high output alternators. Most competent shops will be able to test your car to find out what the max current draw is and give you an appropriate sized alternator for your needs.
Depending on what brackets are used, you may or may not be able to use the alt if you get one for the v6 on the 350. If the only problem it a different pulley, then thats an easy fix.

Go for a 94 amp or 97 amp alternator. I have a 97A on my Firebird which used to be a V6 and is now a V8- so yes it will fit.
Also- consider a 2nd battery for just the stereo. You can get a dual battery isolator which allows the alternator to charge both batteries. On my old 86 Camaro, I mounted the 2nd battery in the spare tire well and the isolator next to the charcoal canister under the hood. I've seen cars with the 2nd battery mounted under the hood on the other side as well. Plus- one time my main batt. died and I was able to jump the car from my stereo battery.
