I have an 88 Trans Am GTA. Real top spec car with almost everything but the sub option and the gain switch on the dash. However, i successfully found on ebay the sub enclosers which go in the rear sale panels in place of the stock 6x9's and the gain switch for the dash. I have the stock digital tape stereo with graphic equiliser and steering wheel controls. I'm a stickler for factory look even though the car isnt stock. I know i wont get stock speakers and subs for the car as it would have had in 1988, and nor do i want them, but can anyone tell me what it would have had, and what would be good to replace them with today?
Thank you
Greg

I have that system, and my speakers are shot. I'll have to cross that same bridge eventually, replacing the drivers. I'll be watching this with interest. Name: popcorn.gif

Talk to MantaGuy from NJ - he had his woofers "re-coned" - Sounds pretty good.

pretty good is relative. pretty good when compared to stock 80's audio stuff. to me it deosnt make much sense because whatever you do its hidden by the sail cover. so when mine went out like everybodies do i put aftermarket 6x9's in it. they are better than stock for sure and way less than it was to restore the stock woofer setup. which is a 4x6 and separate 5in woofer with a tuned port box that both sit in.

If your looking to restore your UQ7 Sound System, the 2 front 4x6s are still available from GM,The 2 subs and the 2 rear 4x6s are no longer available,(fronts have prongs for a plug, rears are wired direct)but you can buy 2 more fronts and take the wires/plugs off a junker and cut them into the rear speaker wires and use them.I had my subs re coned by a shop that still had them in stock(the place been there for 45 yrs.)If your interested in having your subs done,PM me and I'll give you his name and no.
PS,He has done a couple other members also.
