2 ohms or 4 ohms?

Ive got an infinity digital 100 amp,(100X2 at 4 ohms) and it's going to be powering 2 infinity kappas 10's, just the subs, nothing else. The subs are rated at 250 watts RMS and the amp runs 200X2 at 2 ohms, I was wandering if it was possible to wire the subs to run at 2 ohms, if so would running the amp at 2 ohms all the time be to hard on it. Should I just leave it at 4 ohms and be happy? I just want the best possible sound for the time being until I can get a bigger amp. Thanx guys.

Crazyjoe,

I'd try it. The amp you've got is a quality one, and it should be able to handle a 2 ohm load. If you think it may not be 2 ohm stable though, call your dealer.

I'm running my Eclipse 33230 at 2 ohms. Its a 130x2 at 4 ohm, or 200x2 at 2 ohm. I have it running 4 Boston speakers at 100x4 at 2 ohms, and while it runs a little warm on hot days, its never come close to shutting down, and sounds absolutely awesome!!

If its 2 ohm stable, I don't see why this wouldn't work. Twice the power will indeed give you better sound.

Are the subs 4 or 8 ohm? If they're 8 ohm, you can parallel them and bridge the amp, and each amp half will see the 2 ohms. That would be the best scenario. If they are 4 ohm, then you would have 2 ohms in parallel, and each half of the amp would see 1 ohm, which some amps won't put up with. I have a Kicker 160ss amp running a pair of 4 ohm kicker 12's in the other car, and they are paralleled, amp seeing 1 ohm, etc..., and it has sounded awesome for about 3 or 4 years, and it doesn't even get hot!
