Tweeter Positions
Tweeter Positions
Today I was riding in my friends 2000 civic and I noticed that the tweets where in his rear view mirror (on the inside of course) and I was wondering if anyone has placed tweeters anywhere else besides in a kick pod or in the dash? The imaging would be great if there was a way to place the tweets in the side mirrors or in the top of the door like in my moms 2000 celica.

I've seen w/ our cars that they have put the tweeters in the A-pillar posts and looks killer when done right. That is another option b/c you would have the imaging of the highs from your tweeters right up in front of you.

No one would happen to have any pics of the a pillar tweeter mount would they????

There are a number of problems with mounting there. The first and most prevalent problem is that the driver tweeter is about 2 feet from your head, and the passenger side is a mile away. This makes for a brutally unbalanced soundstage unless you pan the balance over to the right, but that causes all sorts of issues and also destroys any hope of an image from the passenger seat. The next problem is that it makes the tweeter farther from the mid, which can cause phasing issues around the crossover frequency. I prefer to keep the tweets close to the mids. If you don't have the $$$ or the skill to buy/build kick panel pods and you want to keep the stock dash locations, I would suggest mounting the tweets with the mids under the stock grills, or at least put the tweets at the very bottom of the A piller as far forward as possible.

I undestand that if you have the tweeters are angled to face at the drivers/passengers head but what if you where able to face the driver tweet towards the passenger and the passenger tweet towards the driver. Would that help the imaging at all???

Essentially it will attenuate the highs, but it doesn't do it evenly across the whole frequency spectrum. Ideally, you want them to image properly with both tweets facing off axis by about the same amount. There's going to be so much reflection because of the windshield and window that no matter how you face them it won't change things much.
