Morning ladies and gents,
Getting ready to remove my old radio and reinstall Dave's Replacement Radio (both stock) Any warnings or issues I should be aware prior to starting this?

Original Radio (1986) Not too sure on the pin configuration, because I haven't removed one screw as of yet.

New Stock Radio: 1988 sticker on top of the radio says 1993, but it looks exactly like mine. Dave supplied the plug with the new radio.

 

Also, I was wondering how I would access my fender antenna cable to ensure the connection is solid there.

 

I did the same thing a few years ago, I have a '86 T/A which had the older 12pin connector and installed a 4th gen CD player, I used a newer 21pin connector pigtail and re-wired the car's wiring harness with a total project time of about an hour. IIRC the wire colors were the same. I have since replaced the 4th gen CD with a late 3rd gen cassette with an aux. input jack.

 

There is a conversion harness you can get from eBay that will make this project very easy. Let me know if you can't find it

Look's like all the color wires are there, but there's one plug on the back of the radio, (lower RH ) that has a Orange and Brown wire and the plug has a capital "S" on it. Any thought's on this?

 

The amplifier is internal in this Monsoon head unit? So no "extra" wiring or parts were needed?

 

 

The male plug is in the console of the car. For this "S" plug...please help...

 

This is exactly what you need. You plug your old harness into it, and then other end goes into your new radio. So easy

So the plot thickens...before I knew there was an adapter kit I went ahead and pressed on for a traditional in-line splice, so on the original radio, I cut the wires as short as I could in order to have sufficient length for the in-line splices. Now with this adapter kit, I was to plug my old radios plugs in and then splice the new plug into the new radio

so the scenario now is this:

1) the original radio plug wires are sticking up out of their respective plug less than a 1/2 inch.

You should be able to remove each of the pins from the plastic connector body. Take a very small flat head screw driver and reach in from the connector side and depress the tab. Then pull the wire from the opposite end with a slight pressure to move the pin past where the tab latches.

Then either patch the wiring, or remove what's left on the pin and re-crimp or solder the wire from the harness back onto the pin. Then pull the tabs back out and re-insert the pins back into their respective positions. Make sure to write down or take a pic of the connector so you don't forget where they go.

 

What would be a good source of supply for the connectors that are those plugs?

 

That I don't know.
You can try pulling back the crimp/s that hold the wire in, but that will take a bit of work to do all of them.
Note that the rear crimp is to hold the outer sheath as a protection from pulling.

Below shows how it comes out, the small tab and the direction it's pointed, and than the crimps that hold the wire in place.

 

I forgot to say that removing the pins will still make it easier to patch the wires together.
Or you could head down to a junk yard and get new connectors with longer wiring to work with.

Hey guys. I have a question. I found an 87-89 RS in the yard with an unmolested radio. I recently bought an 87 iroc that has no radio and the wiring harness is all sorts of effed up. Can you guys guide me on how to remove the unmolested radio harness if I can? I'm heading back to the junkyard on Tuesday the 6th.
