can anyone recommend a 1.5 din cd player for around $200 that is also good quality??? i don't have any amps or anything, just a stock pioneer cassette deck that sounds pretty good and i want to upgrade to play cds.

No. There aren't any 1.5 din units that cheap except for Jensen and Audiovox, which are both totally useless. You're going to have to either cough up more dough, or go with a standard single din radio.

Try the Pioneer DEH-P47DH. You can get it REAL cheap here: www.sbhcorp.com . My sister got the 77DH from them, and it arrived in a few days, total was $238.xx. Thr 47DH is nder 200 bucks.

cool, thanks for the info...i was reading the description on the DEH-P77DH and it reads "Playback Compatible with Digital Audio CD-R (when disc is finalized)" anyone know what this line may mean?

It means if you burn a cd on your computer, as long as you close the session it will play. Most cd players will play CDRs though.

I really don't recommend a 1.5 din head unit. The only decent aftermarket models I've seen are from Pioneer....and they look pretty lame to me when compared to the newer single din units available. For a new look you may consider utilizing the large empty space under the dashboard on the passenger side.

The way CD-Rs are set up, you can burn multiple sessions, however, for audio, you have to use the first session for audio and a regular audio player can't read any other sessions. The session must be closed to play, meaning, you can't add anything more at a later time.

thanks again for the info. i wanted to go with a 1.5 din cd player to fill the hole where he factory unit was installed. if i went with a single din unit the mount kit would look like crap, i know it's already been done and i'm not happy with the job they did. if i went with putting the stereo under the passenger side dash, what would i do with the huge hole where the stereo was to be put?

No to mention, how would you get to it while driving? What about the Alpine 1.5 DIN, take a look at that, I forget how much it is though. I know the CDA-855 is like $359, but I dont know how much the lower model is.

Actually, the MSRP for the CDA-855 is right at $500.00, I payed 460.00 for mine. Should be interesting when I get around to putting it in. I don't recall what the lower version was priced at from Alpine though.

it looks like the DEH-P77DH unit has a security alarm feature...any experiences with this feature/unit? good...bad...not worth it?

Alpine offers 2 different 1.5 din models. They are a little expensive but they look much nicer in place and most din recievers. I've had my D855 in since January and it's been a great investment. My only complaint is that it doesn't have 3 sets of preouts. The face itself is very cool. It's got a graphic equalizer with different settings and black out (for when you want no display). It does seem a little under powered but most people have amps, so that's not that big of an issue. If you want to get a 1.5 din I would say get either the alpine D852 or D855. You can find the D855 at various places for about $400, the D852 is usually about $50 less. Hope this helped.

The Pioneer 77DH fits perfect in a 1991 Camaro RS. No modifications necessary. Easy install. $238 from MMXpress. Buy a wiring harness from Circuit city or somewhere $14.
