I got cash to blow I need help!!

I want to hook my car up with a decent system. I don't need it to blow out any windows or make my passengers deaf. I just want a decent system that sounds good. I have $200 to spend so give me some ideas. All I have that dosen't suck is the stereo every thing else must go.

$200?!?!?!?!? for a system plus installation. You would be lucky if you would be able to buy a half way decent CD player for $200, I sure hope that you left off a zero on that 200 b/c sure would not buy you much for an amp or a woofer or just good component speakers. I didn't mean to slam you in any way bro just trying to let ya know.

I would get a pretty good pair of 4x6's and then maybe a decent pair of 6x9s and a pack of dynamat. That should run around $225 or so.. Look into Pioneer, Kenwood, Polk or clarion. Spend more on the fronts than the 6x9s though..

For $200, you really can't get much, but you probly already knew that.

Sorry I should have asked where I should start on a system. I already have a cd player. I can install it myself.

If you already have a CD player you're happy with, and you don't need a lot of bass, and you can install the stuff yourself, you should be able to take care of yourself pretty well with $200-250.

A good pair of 4x6s for the front dash should around $75-100. 6x9s for the back could range from $80-150. And if you can find them, spend $10 on two sets of speaker harness adapters, so you don't have to cut up your factory wiring.

As for brands, don't pay too much attention to people's brand recommendations. All speakers sound different, so just listen to a lot of them and buy whatever sounds best to you. It might be a wise idea to keep the front and back from the same brand, but you don't have to.

Right on you already got the main thing down and that is the deck. Here is what I reccomend. Disconnect the 4x6's there are a crap speaker and you can hardly hear those things. What I would do is get a really good pair of 4 way 6x9's (I got a killer pair at a flea market for $20) and get some kick panel component speakers. They sound so damn good. If you can make the kick panels yourself then you would save yourself $200. That would be my recommendation and you would be pretty happy w/ those but I do recommend a small amp to power those 2 sets of speakers.

I need to disagree here. First of all, stay away from anything at a flea market. Second, for a modest stereo, there is no reason to use non-stock speaker locations. Go to a local stereo shop and start listening to some speakers. Buy 4x6" and 6x9" speakers from the same brand and model lineup. That way the sound will remain consistant from all speakers. I'm a huge fan of Boston Acoustics speakers, but what is important is what YOU like, so you should go to some stores and listen to the speakers. Don't let 3 way, 4 way or 22 way speakers influence your decision. Just listen to them with your eyes closed. I have always found that the better sounding speakers are the simple 2 way speakers and not the ones with a dozen drivers crammed into one spot.

Well I have to counter dissagree w/ ya guys on the flea market stuff. There are some good stuff there. Let me re emphasize SOME, not all but some. I bought some off brand 6x9's that were 4 ways and man they sound killer and are loud as hell. I also bought a brand new capacitor from the same place and it works great and brand spanking new. But never go to a flea market and not know what the hell you are looking for b/c you will get burned and dissapointed big time.

Jim is right about the fact that for a modest stereo, there is no reason to change from factory locations.

I have retained my 4x6 openings with Boston 746s ($120), and I'm very happy with how it sounds. Its gonna be awhile before I even consider doing 6.5 kicks.
