a box for a single 12" sub????
Right now I have two 12" subs on a plate each with a seperate pionner amp. It was decent sounding. Now one of the subs is blown. I dont have my stereo very loud but once and I while I like to feel my bass. I also would lke to save some weight and dont want to bulid a heavy box. I am broke and want to do this right but cheaply. I also want a clean look in the rear of the car.
If I build a box for the sub that is still good, will I get good results compared to my present plate set up? How do I build this box? Dimensions? Do they sell 12" tubes? would that be better?

A single 12" sub in a real box will sound much better and completely out-pound 2 12s on a plate. A single 12" sub will go loud enough to make your gut jiggle. I would, as always, suggest MDF but Particle board isn't bad either. There are a few different ways to put 12s in. Below are the pictures of the two styles I've used. The second style is my most recent creation and I'm very happy with its sound and appearance.

I like the look of that second box. Do you have the dimensions for it? Do you know how much it weighs? I wanna keep it as light as possible. I don't have a clue as to how to build a box, like what materials to use and how to put it together, can you tell these things or show me where to go to learn them.

Empty the box probably weighs 25-30lbs. It would be 35-40 with MDF. I don't give out my dimensions because I sell the boxes, but I will tell you that this is no box for a beginner. That box has a lot of separate pieces and has angled pieces on the front side.

A 15 could be made to fit with some minor box modifications, but the depth may be a problem, and internal airspace would be a major problem. There's only about 1.5 cubic feet of airspace in that box, and accomodating it to fit a 15 will make it even smaller.
