anybody ever mounted thier deck somewhere other than the console
The reason i ask is, i recently saw a car where the "flip down face" actually was installed in the rear view mirror housing, and the rest of the deck was mounted uner the dash, how the hek did they do that ????
The rewire the face to deck clip, kinda like using an extension cord. Most flip down face units use contact clips that touch when the face is up. Just match them up with wire in between and there you go. I tried this on my deachable face pioneer it works.
all you have to do is open the case of you faceplate and actual head unit and solder ribben cables to the connectors inside the peices. The olny problem is that you have to whatch how long of a cord you use. I've done a pioneer that we got away with about twenty feet but a jvc only let us do 3 feet before it showed weird caracters and wouldnb't work correctly. I am doing that with mine the face will be on the headliner above my mirror and the deck will be under the stearing wheel. good luck
This is a very interesting idea guys. I'd like to mount my Face right were it is, but make it nice and FLUSH not sticking out, and The mount it in the center concole, with like a lip where you slid the CD's in.

the center console's a good idea, but wont work. been planning on mounting my half din eq in it. finally get the console outta the car, and its too shallow. besides that, you cant cut anything out underneath it cause thats where the transmission hump is. back to the drawing board for me.....
also working on mounting my hu back and using an old delco face as a dummy plate. i think jim85iroc already did this, and it looked very nice.

I saw one time where this guy mounted the face of his radio where the rearview mirror was. It still had the stalk but the mirror and the body that the mirror was mounted to was replaced with the HU face. Looked pretty cool! He mounted the rest of the HU behind the dash. It was completely hidden. There was a small slit just big enough for the disc to slide into the HU.

The coolest head unit install I ever saw in an f-body was in a blue Formula. The guy took the buttons from the faceplate and mounted them either in the center console or on the driver's door. I forget which. The display for the faceplate was put behind 2-way glass in the rearview mirror. The deck was in the stock location, but had a custom bezel with just a slot for the cd. It was real nice.
One idea that I'm considering is mounting my TV where the stock radio is, and mounting my radio where the center heat vents are. What I'd really like to do is get the heater box out of a Trans Am with the digital dash, and then I could easily mount the heater controls somewhere else, and mount the TV and DVD player right in the console. I doubt I'll ever get around to doing any of this though. The TV and DVD player have sat in my living room since May.

Put a 7inch wide screen and Alpine DVD5205 where the Radio is.
Leave my ERA-G320 where the ac/heater controls were.and put an alpine CDA-7878 where the center vents are.
No AC/heater here anyways.
