2 12" sub custom box

i am looking to put 2 12" subs in the back of my camaro. i was wondering if anyone knows about how much it would cost to get one made, or would I be better off trying to make it myself? Because i went to one place and they said that it would cost between $250-$300!!!!!!! i thought that was rather high, are all places going to be like that?

I am ordering a whole system, subs, amps, speakers, head unit, from this one place and they are giving me a custom box for 2 12 inch subs and everything is going for around... 1400.

Should i use dynamat??? I cna ask the guy to have that installed too... this is all free installation so i am not going to go and get all these tools to do things myself.

I could use any ideas, thx guys

Dynamat or any other type of sound deadening material will make your expensive system sound even better. It's sole purpose in life is to keep the sound your system produces inside the car....and filter out any outside noise (rattles, road noise etc etc).

As an added benefit to anyone without a high end system....using sound deadening material will reduce any road noise you might be hearing!

$250-300 is not out of line for a thirdgen box. That's what I charge for mine. These boxes aren't exactly cookie-cutter boxes. They take a lot of time and skill to build, especially from a retail shop that probably doesn't build that specific style box all the time.

I agree with Jim. $250 - $300 is about right for a custom box. The materials only cost @ $50 tops....but the skill and time ittakes to make the box are what your really paying for here. I've made my own quite a few times....and they take hours....if not days for an average Joe like me with a power saw ;-) hehehe

Granted....I usually make it 3 times over before I do it without screwing up along the way....

Humm I paid $125 for mine Maybe because me and the owner of the shop are good friends. It's a good heavy built box too! When I take it out of the car I'd bet the rear end raises atleast 1- 1 1/2inches. I've been meaning to weigh mine with the subs in it cause it's HEAVY! The last time I took it out, it felt like I gained about 40hp. I almost didn't wanna put it back in. I think I'll weigh it tommorrow just for curiosity.

I paid $125 for my box. It was designed for 10"s but the 12"s I put in are doing all right. I got mine at Advanced Audio out of Indy.

I made mine...for about 25$ hah, that inclided teh MDF board, silicone, nail glue, carpet and carpet sealant. It took me about 4 days to make, and I didnt make it chambered so it would hit harder if I did but I didnt rememebr it till I put the carpet on and I Was doen haha, doesnt that suck, but its nice, weighs about 20 lbs, and I go faster with it out heh. But I would suggest building it yourself, takes time, took me about 22 hours, but its a learning experience, give it a shot, for examle, right now, im making kickpanels for component speakers, jsut like DJsexays because im short on cash and I want to save moeny and be creative, plus its a learning experience.

Grrr, no I threw them away, But I started from the bottom of the well, then to the side box portions, then the sides of the box then the top, before the top u can chamber it so it will hit harder. But I do remember the left side box portion having a smaller volume as compared to th right side which will be slightly bigger.

Click on my thirdgen project link in my sig and look at the exterior pics of my box, maybe you can tell.

A friend of mine got a box for 2 12's off of eBay for $75. The box is pretty good for that price and it fit well also and left room for his T-Tops. Or you can do what I did and build your own box for $50.

heres a story about mine. I went to Circuit City with my friend one day and her was checkin out a few things. I was looking at the Triple MTX Thunder 6000 (T610X3) and i BS'ing with one guy there like "yea, basically its the only box you sell that will fit in my firebird". He asked if i had a black interior and informed me that he had a dual 12 box sitting in the road shop that no one knows about. So he sold it to me for $140 and i put 2 JBL's i had at home in 'till i got my JL's. Wasn't even planning on getting a box that day, but i really didnt feel like going to a pro shop and having them build one when i just could drop one in. I had to trim the edge down on it so i could close my hatch but still looks fine for me.

Mine ran me 300 bucks(but is supposed to be 500 but I am friends with the guys), made with MDF, fiberglass, carpet, poly fill, the works. It was nailed and screwed together to make sure there were no gaps, then they fiberglassed the whole thing to seal it, then used silicone around the inside edges to really make sure it would seal right. They included the cutout of the JL symbol too. and carpeted inside the amp rack. Top quality, and I love it

Im gettin one custom made to go from my backseats all the way to the end of the trunk. Im gettin a mirrored cutout for my amps and cap w/neon around it, and room for 2 12's . Thats gonna cost me close to 500, with neon and mirror. IF u guys do make your own box, besides makin sure it fits, be sure that it meets the airflow requirements of the speaker, and that you wire things properly so that nothing is out of phase.
