6x9 problems, please help

i just bought some Eclipse 6x9s. i put em in and the highs are immensely better, however the bass is quieter than the stock speakers.
Is this because of the sound deading? i noticed the speakers rattle things more but aren't as loud.

Should i really care since i plan on having a couple subs? Thanks in advance

Check to make sure that you don't have your speaker leads reversed....you should get a noticeable improvement when you install any aftermarket speaker compared to the stock speakers.

Unless you have a nice amp to go with those speakers and you did some good dynomatting...its not gonna come close to what subs can do

also if you are running these new speakers with a factory head unit, or even an aftermarket one, they arent putting out enough power to move the woofers enough to get strong bass. the factory speakers didnt need that much power to move the cheap cardboard woofers, so thats probably why they sounded like they had more bass than the others. once you hook up an amp, you'll see those things shake. but they still wont compair to seperate subs.

well i notice things rattle more, meaning that the cones on the 6x9 woffer part (there 3 ways) are moving more. thats why i thought it was airspace. but it seems like the would have too much air space because a 6x9 couldnt need too much.
I think im gonna take em back and try the MB Quarts, there $40 more but the 6x9s have to sound good enough till i get my subs in.
and i wasnt looking for something that would compare to subs. just something that would tide me over untill i got em in. but at $400 a sub its gonna be a while till i can put em in.
Anything else i should try? Oh the Eclipse 6x9s are 30watt rms 60 peak, so i think the factory deck wouldnt have any trouble moving em.

Eclipse 6x9s will have far better bass output than the stock jobs if you have them installed correctly. Replacing them for MB Quarts won't help. Turn your balance all the way to one side. Does the bass output improve? If so, you have the speakers wired out of phase and you need to reverse the polarity of one of them. Also keep in mind that the stock decks in our cars are pure junk and are only going to sound so good regardless of the speakers you choose. A nice, inexpensive cd player should be your next investment, not more expensive speakers.

problem solved. wasnt polarity, had that one perfect. wasnt weak deck, sure thats part of it but... it was those bastard holes the factory put in the speaker "boxes" those of you who have been into the 6x9 area know what im talikng about.
i bought some V-Block, smaked that over the holes, put it in spots that felt weak, over the seams, and arround the hole for the 6x9. The speakers sound great! while i was at it i killed a couple rattles too. i even still have enough to do my dash!
thanks for all your help but it looks like the culprit here was that the "boxes" weren't air tight. they probably still arent but they are a hell of alot closer.

oh and my next investment is the Eclipse 55040 or something. 2nd level eclipse deck. i think that will go nicely with these speakers
