Does anybody know for sure what you can fit in the back of a 92 convertible? Crutchfield is pointing me to 6.5 / 6.75s, but it seems like a 6x9 or even bigger could fit back there. The problem is, it's really cold out, so i don't feel like taking a bunch of trim pieces off just to look at the holes. So if anybody has any ideas, let me know. If not, i guess i'm waiting for a nice day.

When I bought my 89 Convertible I pull the all trim panels off (not like there was a lot you know) the rears had some huge 6x9 speakers, Rockfords I think, they were blown. Who ever put them in had to redrill a mounting place for the them, and padded the rear of the speaker so not to be rattling up against the skin of the car.

Yes, there is definately more room than that, maybe its diffrent for your year but I doubt it. Even if there is only that small space, it is not hard by any means to enlarge the opening for some applications, I would say 8" speakers would be about the largest...

Just to finish this post out (in case anybody searches on this topic later), i took my trim off over the weekend and the opening you have to work with in there is about 7-8" x 9". I'm personally just throwing 6x9s in, but if you wanted to hack some stuff up a little i'd bet 8" could be done.

i bought sony explode 6x9s for my car. It is a 91 convertible...they would have fit fine, but when i put the panels back on, the speaker hit a metal brace in the car. You might be able to make it fit though..i just decided not to screw with it.
