Bose or not...

The original Delco digital radio/cass with equalizer stopped working ( almost)
Time for a replacement.
It says on the front "DELCO" but without "BOSE".
According to the RPO codes, the car has "premium sound system", whatever it means.
Easier to change for a modern system if it's not Bose, right?
So how will I know for sure?

How will you know "what" for sure?

Your car doesn't have a Bose sound system. The head unit would have "Delco-Bose" on it if it did.

Re: Bose or not...

I believed: "Premium Sound System" means "Bose"..
But if it's not, it's easier to change the stock unit for an aftermarket, still using the excisting speakers.

No, "Premium Sound System' does not denote the Bose system and yes you can easily drive your non-Bose system speakers with an aftermarket head unit.

Re: Bose or not...

Send me your radio for repair if you would like. Don't put an ugly after market head unit in the dash. Doesn't look right IMHO.

Re: Bose or not...

I have an original 86 Delco radio. No tape or cd just radio with adjustable bass and treble. Good shape. Id sell it if you wanted somewhat original equipment.

I'm in the Netherlands, so shipping to and from the USA will be massive...besides, I don't want a cassette player anymore...

Thanks, but I want a CD player at least, and I'm in the Netherlands, so shipping will be huge, I'm afraid.

Unless you have a storage panel over the rear compartment with massive Bose tubimg & kick panels with speakers.....you don't have a Nose system

Firebird never got a BOSE system from the factory.

Correct. If by some miracle someone put a Bose system in, it's a pain to redo and get another radio to play nice. You can drop a single, possibly double din in just fine.
Don't cheap out. I'd also recommend new speakers all the way around.

Re: Bose or not...

OK, so no Bose.
Makes it just easier to change the excisting stereo, thanks.
What speakers do you recommend (Btw, I liked the sound of the original speakers...!)
