Flush Mounting Headunits

Ive seen pictures of flush mounted aftermarket head units in camaros. I was wondering if this is a kit u can buy or how to do it. Or if its one of them custom made deals.

Because this darn plastic filler bracket or wateva da heck u want to call it is pissin me off!

You can buy head units that are not as deep as most, and that are also tall enough to completely fill the gaps. Jensen and Pioneer both make a model that is a direct fit for GM/Chrysler products. You can check them out at www.crutchfield.com or I'm sure that Pioneer and Jensen have them on their websites.

There is also the Alpine 855 which is a 1.5 din install. Only problem was that only 2 of the 4 mount wholes lined up. I love it but it might not be in your price range.

I've flush mounted a deck into a firebird and into my IROC. Both required fairly extensive modifications to the center console, but the camaro console was much easier to work with and required less cutting and fabrication.

The problem is obviously the depth. I had to cut away the molded-in heat ducts from the center console on both cars. On the IROC, it's also necessary to remove the steel back brace if your car has it (Mine didn't). On the firebird you have to cut away a ton of stuff, relocate a rear console bracket and pound the transmission tunnel down a little.
