So my window sticker says UM6 radio, and I don't think the radio in the car is correct. What should a UM6 radio for a 1987 Pontiac GTA look like? Thanks!

Your Pontiac backlighting should be red. The factory stock 87 radio should also have 3 large radio plugs and a smaller 2 wire plug.

The radio in your car right now (silver buttons) is a Buick Radio.

I *think* that the second radio pictured should be in your car. ( Grey SEEK/SCAN and pre-sets. )

I've pulled a few radios from 94 (or so) Grand Ams' that looks like the 3rd radio pictured. ( Black SEEK/SCAN and pre-sets. ) This radio has the smaller 21 PIN plugs. This one might have used during the early nineties in the Firebirds.

Yup, Display should be a greenish color.

I was also a bit wrong about the Gran Am decks,..... the ones I got from the 94 looked like this: ( No power button and only pre-sets are black. )



That means the 3rd deck in your pics could also be a Firebird unit.

 

Additional question, the car has the Digital Dash. Was the UM6 radio different for digidash cars?

 

Mine is all push buttons, no *****, and eq. It's an '87 with digital dash.

If you scroll down a few pics this guy has an interior pic, my radio is the same. Figured most of the digital dash '87 GTA's would have had this???

 

I'm fairly certain that a UM6 radio was a basic Cassette radio ( without EQ ). Pretty sure that was true for all GM cars with the UM6 option code.
